I'm thinking a 20+ knot onshore wind brings them out of the wood work? I've encountered a couple of late whilst out kiting. Surely all the half decent surfers would be elsewhere in these conditions. Just because surfing has been around longer, doesn't mean you own the ocean w@nker. Apparently the wide berth I gave them wasn't enough an called for pointing and shouting. I enjoyed my run all the same.

At my local, there's a swimmer who wants to make a point. He'll swim right through our 50m wide line. You see him enter the water at one side, swim out between 100 to 300m, swim across, and then swim back to shore and get out. He has no coloured hat to see him and he is very hard to see. I was sailing with a mate a few years ago, and the same guy told him to "F*** Off, go do that s*** out there. This is a swimmers beach" when he tacked too close to him. So yeah, they are out there.

Each year and each session during summer, I always look out for him. My inside gybes are effected, because I have one eye on the water so I don't run over him. I'm not keen on paying for his injures for the rest of my life because he wants to be a w***er (and ban windsurfing at Semaphore)

Yeah happened to me a fair bit kiting Perth metro. I actually find it quite funny. Usually tack back and do some punts to rub it in.

Yeah for sure. It is somewhat hilarious that they're trying to take their surfing so seriously in onshore slop.
Maybe you could throw this into a dude and man episode slave?

Dunno about the pointing and shouting but if it has been flat (or I'd been unable to surf) for two weeks or more I'll happily go surf in 20+ knots if it's overhead.

Fair enough, maybe something I hadn't considered. However both times I'd say it was about 2-3ft max

We get people here who do that sort of thing, no matter what you're doing...

Playing street hockey in a huge carpark at the local park, at the far end away from everyone else? Some ass will ride his bike over and stop in the middle of your pitch.
Kiteboarding on the ONLY beach around the giant lake that's safe enough to launch and land? Someone's going to bring their kids down - not to the swimming beaches just down the road, but to your beach AND park themselves right in the middle of all your kites, not even bothering with the empty sand 100m to their left.
Landboarding at a different park? You guessed it, someone's going to come and play baseball right on top of you kite lines.
Humped your gear 500m away from the beach to get out of everyone's way? Yeah, here comes Fisherf**k to cast lines right where you're about to ride.
My fav though is still the guy with the powered-paraglider, setting up behind the kites and windsurfers, then trying to launch himself between the palm trees, over the gear, over the people on the beach and not tripping down the stairs. He nearly collided with all the above AND wrapped his wing in the power lines before he actually got off the ground. Naturally, the wide open spaces just 50m either side of that space was too far away

I can't decide if it's just congenital selfishness or absolute lack of consideration of the surroundings...

From all the ocean users besides kiters please accept our apologies, didn't realize you were the most important group of people and that your fun comes first and everyone else can **** off..

I enjoy the arvo howling onshore surf but. The beginner's are gone, the surfschools have wrapped up and generally the wind whips up enough shape in the waves as opposed to glassy closeouts at Perths most popular beach. Have had a few kiters kite pretty close to me but they generally stay their way as I do mine. How I see it, if we're all that keen to surf when it's over 20knts, I can respect them for their passion.

Why not just take up kitesurfing DJMWA. More fun in 20knots with a surfboard and kite?

In the process of it now, had a few lessons and am aparently ready to get my own gear and go solo. Was just saying that 20knots onshore/sideshore wind doesn't necessarily mean it's a total write of for surfing.

Its the only way i can i can get into a wave before you SP!!

I ran one over a few weeks back,

It's not like I can just pull a handrake on my raceboard.

If you see them limping heavily up the beach, then you know they are semi ok.
