The publication/book by Susan Day, which I recommend to all
"
Memories of Lake Lefroy. A history of landsailing on Lake Lefroy"...
This wonderful and factual publication on the history and evolution of landsailing, particularly at Lake Lefroy. Mentions on page 123 in a two line report, an adventurous landyacht undertaking in South Australia in the 1950's.
"
In the 1950's, two brothers travelled by sandyacht from Adelaide right across Lake Eyre [ 1,300kks]. This yacht is now in The Birdwood Mill Museum".
I would like to find out more about this trip........ What i do know is this
1... A yacht now property of The Birdwood Mill Museum exists. It seems highly likley that this machine was/could be the one envolved,
2... Martin Bell [ unknown to me ] mentions this trip in an article for/in Landyatching in Australia, submitted in 1998.
3... Harold Clisby [ unknown to me ] may have been one of the participants.
Any helpful information on this story or links to participants or descendants would be appreciated.
On another Tack...the latest to hit Paris,.....looks good
me thinks the front end could be used on landyachts
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8069385.stm a three wheel bike or scooter aussie speak. seems a lot safer than the single front wheel concept. Handled the wet exceptionally well
