I know its not really a windsurfing/kiteboarding question, BUT
I was watching the TV on the weekend and they were showing some skateboarding championship ... awesome stuff. I'm probably too old and stiff in the joints to be stuffing around with this, but the way they just seem to flick to board up into the air fascinates me.
How the hell do you olly a board, and then how do you get the bloody thing to roll over in mid air and land back under your feet?
with an ollie you pop the back of the board with your back foot as if you were touching a hot stove ( in a quik reflex kinda motion) this will make your board come off the ground but the board will be nearly vertical. so you drag your front foot up the board right up to the kick where the boards tips curve upwards. with the weight of your front foot up by the kick the board will even out by brigging the boards ass up and level . and theres your ollie.
the flip thingy- i think youre refering to a kickflip or a heelflip.
witha kickflip you do the same as an ollie except your front foot is positioned in a different way.when you drag your front foot up you flick the foot off the side of the board just before the kick. and this spins the board.if you do it right the board will only spin once. you catch the board with your feet in mid air. it feels great. but kiting is better.
yep the ollie, too new school for me, bring back classic 70's moves like, the tic tac, the stall, the handstand, the 360, the 720, slalom thru coke cans, ah yes can still pull these off many years later!
Yeah, bring back the old school moves. Showed my kids the 720 and the (we called em endo's, you know the 180 from the back trucks to front trucks over and over) a couple of years ago. They thought they were cool but TOO old school, ahh well made me feel good
Could never master the tricks apart from some of the "Old school"
I've been looking at the long boards though as a couple of mates have them and they are a lot more fun, on a long incline its just like running a Mal on a long peeling wave.
They're a lot less twitchy than the std boards which makes it good for us more senior citizens, (we don't bounce as well as well used to).
Still got my roller skates from my miss-spent youth and occasionally drag them out when I want to embarass myself on the street.
Hey Elmo, have you tried the scateboard I made for pete, now that can really embarass you. I like my boards loose, this one will turn in it's own length with all 4 wheels on the ground. Don't need to tic tac to drive it, it can be powered up our little hill just be doing carve type turns.
Cheers Kenta! In the Ollie are you lifting/jumping your body weight off the front foot when you pop the back of the board?? (he types, while taking a break to practice the move in lounge-room with young child looking at him strangely...)
