I was away camping with friends not long back and got into a shout out of the esky with one of the blokes.

Well he was one of these blokes who cant sit still and he'd get the beer have a swig, put it down wander around doing things then come back have a yarn have a swig and off he'd go again, took him about 50 minutes for a stubby. Meanwhile I'm left hangin'.

Now etiquette says you stay in the shout and not have a tweeny, but boy I was hanging out.

I worked out I was about a 25 to 30 minute stubby, tinny, schooner consumer, so we were sort of out of synch.

When he took on the bbq cooking duties, I took the iniative and went my own way.

Depends. A good analogy I heard about drinking beer is the human body is like a sponge. When the sponge is dry the it can absorb liquid without dripping any. Similaly when you have your first beer, you can drink it quickly and take it in quite well. First beer shouldn't take any more than two or three minutes maximum, especially after a hard days work.

However after absorbing more and more liquid, the sponge starts to drip until eventually as much liquid goes out as comes in. When this happens with beer drinking you have to take a piss more and more often. Beer drinking slows down too.

So it all depends. However 50 minutes for a beer is too long. The beer would be warm and flat by that time.

We always had the rule that if you are in a round and its your turn you have to provide the next round before the first person finished. Its great when you are at a busy bar on a sunny sunday arvo. Its a nightmare if you are hungover, strugglying and drinking with someone who is quick!

I hate getting involved with people who drink significantly slower than I do. I have a couple of mates who drink at a very similar pace so we normally stick together if we can. Otherwise I am tempted to go it alone. Also when those that love to have a few then dissappear before their round should be avoided at all costs!!

And yes 50 mins is far too slow. Thats when you are required to have a "wedge" and slide one whilst waiting for them to finish. I often do this when out with the GF and think I can get away with it.

there is no etiquette about 'staying in the shout' if you are not actually buying the beers at the pub. if you're drinking from an esky then just dive in when you want a drink.
it will also get the message across to the other bloke that he is too slow.

Back to my breakfast now.....

Dunno if I can be bothered going to work today now I've had a brew

Seperate, but related story...

A friend that I sometimes go hiking with was talking about 'the pyramid race', a running race up and down a mountain in North Queensland. We were talking about how fit some of the racers were.
He made the statement that the fastest racer could finish the race in the time it takes to drink 6 beers (there is pub near the start/finish). He then added, "I have tried to beat that record but could only ever match it". I told him that was pretty impressive stuff and I didn't realise he was so capable. He shrugged and said, "yep, no matter how fast I drink, I still can't finish the seventh beer before the racers are back"

in 50 min i be parole-tic passed out in the garage sleeping on the dogs bed. back in the happy hour days 1$ middies Could cram 15 middies down in 1 hour. (if i didnt get side-tracked throwing 2$ coins into the front of the skimpy s g-string.

If you mate was driving 1 beer in 50 min is good. Its 2 standard drinks in the first hour i think a "beer" can be 1.3 to 1.8 standard drinks. A standard beer is not 1 standard drink!

Haven't finished work, opened a beer (330ml) halfway through the second post. Now I've read down to the last I've drunk a third of it already. Suppose I should do some more work now...

edit: changed a sentence around, and have now drunk the beer down to half.

Half full or half empty though, can't be sure?

I can't scull but after 50min I'm into my 3rd. if it's an esky help yourself.
If your in a shout, well if you need a wedgie go get it 50 minutes I'd be thinking your mates a tight arse or just a social drinker.
But don't take my advice I think I've turned into an alcho sinse I stopped smoking 5 weeks ago today

Yeah, watch yourself. I think that happened to me last year when I gave up. The worst part was I turned into an angry drunk and would black out and then would spend the next few days trying to piece the night together.

Under 25:
1 beer every 10 minutes until you feel like chucking.

Over 25:
1 beer per 1 small packet of chips
or
2-3 beers per 1 large packet of chips or 1 packet of nuts.

Over 55:
1 beer with food (30-120mins)
1 beer after food (30-120mins)
