A 20-year-old Spearwood man who allegedly held up a restaurant yesterday wearing only blue underwear and a "disguise" made of toilet paper has been charged by police with armed robbery.

The man, who walked into a McDonald's restaurant in Spearwood and reportedly threatened staff with a knife before fleeing with stolen cash, was picked up by police shortly afterwards. The hunt was made easier because of his conspicuous attire.

"He was only wearing blue underpants and had attempted to disguise himself by wrapping himself in toilet paper," a police spokeswoman said.
The man was charged with armed robbery and was due to appear in Perth Magistrate's Court this morning.
