Heading up this weekend for 4 days with the kids. I have looked at the tourism information, as usual everything in this town is awesome apparently.

Can anyone narrow it down to the worth while stuff to maximise time, also any recommendations to eat out. We have a self contained apartment but will be venturing out for meals at night, mainly looking at family friendly restaurants with good selection on menu for young and old.

Cheers in advance...

PS also got post in SUPing section looking for anyone going for a paddle Sunday, Monday.

It depends on your interests, lots of beaches, dunes, parks, riding paths, shopping is typical small town, most of the eating houses are in the intown block, resturants and fast food.

Be cautious at night in town as crime is rife

The weather has been awesome so I hope it hangs in for you.

Not wrong about the crime Rex. On the way up heard on the radio about a guy getting shot in the middle of the road just out of town, yay wife starts stressing. We arrive and an hour later cops rock up at the units we're at, I ask what's going on, cop replies these units all got robbed last night and I'm finger printing this car that got broken into out the front of the room. Great, go back to see the family and the wife said 2 words "we're leaving" I replied yes dear first thing in the morning.

Ended up ringing some places in Dongarra and booked in for the other 2 nights. Had a nervous sleep got up went for a SUP at back beach came home packed the car and got to Dongarra by lunch time and had a very relaxing time, what a beautiful place.

Close call! I heard the shooter was from Dongara, where is your sense of adventure? a little lawlessness shouldn't have scared you off.

Hardly a random shooting that any of us would ahve been subject to, it is not South Central L.A or anything.
Yes crime is bad up there but if your friend's car was broken into at Cottesloe it would not put you off the whole area for good right?

We need more windsurfers up there to outnumber the crooks

Sorry guy's, I maybe should have elaborated more. I actually went up for a relaxing break as my wife is under some extreme duress at the moment, Hence why I left.

Not for one minute would I have left if it was on a boys trip away. I will return for a boys trip, I also had a brief look around and know where to stay now.

This occasion was a spare of the moment thing, I'm glad we went as I've been to a fantastic place that other wise I'd probably never have gone.

No offence to any Gero residents, it truely looks like a great place to come and visit in summer with all the beaches and so much history.

No offence taken, Geraldton has always had a touch of "deleverance" about it, some crazy stuff has happened up here over the last 25 years.
