If you think that you can’t help. Then you probably won’t.

If you think that you can help then you probably will.

It’s all you need really,

The thought. The rest will follow.

Pakistan, hungry kids

Think about it

Fair enough to have this thought. This Indus river flood has amazed me. Its sad that people are still in the flood zone when the flood arrives.

The floods started a few weeks ago in the mountains and the water is flowing down the rivers. Why doesn't the Pakistan government do something about it? I've been to Pakistan once and its incredible the amount of apparent corruption ranging across society. The results are horrific, the most graphic are the beggars who have been mutilated so they are more effective beggars. Any government that tolerates its own citizens to be mutilated by criminals because they get kickbacks, is disgusting and foul.

I met and saw very wealthy Pakistanis. One of them said to me something along the lines that India is a rich country full of poor people and Pakistan is a poor country full of rich people.

I somehow think most of the aid going to Pakistan will be unlikely to get where its meant to go and will end up mostly in the hands of rich people.

ofcourse most aid is syphoned off to the real organisations behind front aid agencies... millions of people world wide donate monthly believing they are helping, and tv cameras show us footage of some village getting a new goat, or smiling kids lining up to be vacinated with some sterility inducing concoction.

don't forget condalezza rices' comments about the financial windfall after the boxing day tsunami..

lets not point any fingers too far away from our own government (at all levels), the poisoning of us all in places like broken hill, the hunter valley, the illawarra, just to name a few, simply because big business decrees and souless imbociles with their snouts in the trough, believe the benefits of poisoning their own people are for the communities greater good...

70% of the current cases of diabetes occur in low- and middle income countries.
With an estimated 50.8 million people living with diabetes,
India has the world's largest diabetes population, followed by China with 43.2 million.

I saw a program on this the other day and it shocked me!!!

Pakistan, hungry kids + Adults + WA's homeless...

I'm all for giving money to charity...as long as it gets to those in need. As mentioned above, I doubt that the bulk of the funds shipped out of the country make it to the desitination.

You're kidding, right? A worthwhile thread about a serious topic, of people, kids dying in floodwaters and about suggesting we think about helping. And you're trying to turn it into some comment on conspiracies? Are you for real? What, did you imagine that the flood waters were dumped by a passing 747 that got the wrong chemtrail cannister?

Honestly, you are either seriously sick puppy in need professional help or you seriously need to get a life. I really hope it's the former but I can't help suspecting it isn't.

No wonder I spend so little time here any more. This used to be a good forum.

WTF...?

i think you maybe in need of some serious help

you hope i'm a sick puppy...?

take your head out your ass

where is my comment on conspiracies...?

you want to know what conspiracies are...?

they are topics ignorant and selfish people wish to give no thought to, because you'd rather have someone tell you how it is.

have you been to north sumatra since the tsunami..?

who won the rebuild tenders for the aceh province in sumatra...?

was it a subsidiary of KBR...? who can fork out near a billion for projects in australias west iron ore fields, but can't manage to rebuild shanty homes that have already been paid for by hard workin and well meaning honest and caring citizens of the world...?

we gave well over a thousand dollars to more than one agency collecting for the tsunami relief, I've been takin advantage of the generosity of the indonesian people and their wave rich region for well over a decade and thought it was the least I could do to help... we decided to follow where our money went, it didn't go far.

all i have stated are facts, take the time to look for yourself.

The charity industry, and I write industry deliberatly is largely a scam. A family thats friends with my family has two sisters. One went to uni and became an academic. The other somehow ended up working for a well known charity as a fund raiser. The academic became extremely annoyed as her sister has ended up earning around three times the amount her academic sister earns. So basically the charities are asking for money from people who earn much less than those working for the charities.

From what I have read the charity industry in Muslim countries is even more of an industry where its a religious obligation to give alms. Somehow these alms end up in the pockets of all sorts of people who are not poor. The poor are exploited and treated like Sh!t.

I'm in South America right now (it's early morning), and you know, we're really lucky to live in Australia, it rocks!
God bless Australia, or if you're atheist, may randomness favor Australia.

I hate to see people suffering, but there's just soo many of us that if you throw a 5c coin your going to hit somebody in the eye.

So when it rains somebody's gona get his house/shack flooded... the more we help now, the more will need help in the future and the more pressure we put on a visibly strained ecosystem.

I guess I'm not sure if helping is really helping, or maybe I'm just a self centered selfish tight ass farker.

I'd help if there was an "open source" type charity that created a self sufficient type society... like a real MMO civilization simulation.

They choose to breed and live in poverty They bring kids into the world even if they cant afford to feed themselves.
If we want to help You can send condoms or some of those birth control implants or mabe a few bombs.
Mabe even send some jelly rubber and gings To help them start world war 3.
Most of the western world id "broke bankrupt" They should ask china for a "flood stimulas package this could include rubber floaties and when they get the food rations They should be made to get a 5 year birth control implant.

Yes shannon...ok...The doc was stating the rapid increase of the Indian people becoming diabetics ...maybe thats more clearer...because of the junk food coming into their culture...

That is very narrow minded Buster. 27 years in Africa and never one person did I meet who chose to live in poverty. Perhaps when you get to my age you will appreciate that what you are told by the press is not always the case.

Aid that goes to impoverished nations invariably goes into the pockets of the donor countries. Most countries that are impoverished are that way because the Western world has kept it that way in order to lay their hands on the target countries resources. If you think that is bull then you really need to sit down and educate yourself.

Voicing an opinion is ok if it is informed but tends to make one look like a bit of a wally if not

Well Maxm, something appears to have got under your skin!

I reckon the Doctor has raised a point which too many people choose to ignore, that is that is is one of the biggest rorts going.

It is a very sensitive area and Elbeau deserves credit for the post. Tragedies such as Pakistan tear at humanites heart strings and bring out one aspect of the true spirituality in humans, that is to help another in need.

It is also a tragedy though, that aid has become a by product of our system and really only helps very few individuals and keeps the remainder dependant on it whilst we plunder their countries resources and play one side against the other to keep them in a state of perpetual friction and dependancy.

Whilst the copper and the oil coal and the iron or and the diamonds and the palm oil and the sugar and the flowers flow back at a fraction of the cost.

They are forced to buy back maize produced under huge subsidies in the US which is sold below the cost of production putting every famer out of business.

And our governments keep it that way. If you don't believe it then you need to do a bit of reading.

Generosity is good but I am afraid that all but a small fraction ends up in the mouths of the needy.

I see the World Bank ( yo ho) have loaned Pakistan $900 million. That should extract a bit more sweat from the serfs[}:)]

I thought I'd just check: Oxfam claims 85% of funds raised goes into food and basic survival needs, world vision claims 75% of funds raised are used in the same way. But geez what a sorry bunch of bastards you are. Flysurfer purports to be a God botherer then advocates doing nothing because the problem will only get worse and that there are too many of them, a kind of Christian culling. Mobydisc claims that the "Charity industry" is a scam on the evidence of a friends, sisters, twin, monkeys uncle or something. Bustawa is just attention seeking as usual and Petermac33 seizes on the subject of disease and death in Pakistan and piggy backs his own agenda of the CIA overthrowing leaders in Iran and El Salvador on top of it. INCREDIBLE, MAXM I'm right with ya!!
