Ive just booked a trip to Bali and surrounds over December. Am keen to take my kite if there is a genuine chance of a good ride. Am planning on spending some time at either the Gili's or Nusa Lembongan. Has anybody had a successful kite at this time of the year and, if so, where was it and what size kite did you have?
Any response appreciated!

if you can negotiate the seaweed farms go for it!!
The tides are massive and the wind is fickle at Lembongan. Our kites never saw the light of day.

just got back and travelled with a kiter(didn't take gear) he seemed to think it was kiteable, wind was around the 10-12 knots, he didn't mention anything about tides being an issue, seems the beach to the north was best launch spot as the main area is packed with boats. Lombok was an area he thought was very kiteable, wind was good in the morning but seemed to drop/change in arvo. check www.magicseaweed.com for accurate wind speed direction forecasts

10-12 ain't kitable. Especially in the tropics.
When the current runs after high tide if you crash your kite near shipwrecks you'll get sucked around the corner and never get back. Boat support only.
All the spikes in the water mfrom the seaweed farms make it realy hazardous.
Keahi's dad owns a place there. email playgroundslembongan and ask for some advice.
