Thinking about stopping in late december in either Singapore, Bali or Hong Kong.
Any one got any ideas of what wind is like at that time of year and how consistant - and which best places to go.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Mike,
In December, Bali has either very little wind, or howling (up to 30 knots possible) from the west if a cyclone or intense low pressure system is down south.Kuta is onshore, but you can get out next to the airport(on a windsurfer). It is a large, choppy area sheltered from the waves by Kuta reef(airports lefts), and allows you to get upwind to go out in the large swells in front of Kuta beach.
Another good place is Benoa harbour for windsurfing and kiting - flat water, steady wind, and shallow sand bottom (all sand, no water when tide is out though!)Wavesailing with this offshore wind is possible in front of Benoa harbour - near Novotel. The waves wrap around the reef, so it is great for bear-aways, and jumping.
Singapore has wind in December-wet season wind, usually around 10-15 knots. Most people sail off East Coast Centre on the way to the airport. Many locals go to Bintan - Indonesian island 45 minutes by ferry-which has cross-onshore wind and small waves at Mana Mana watersports centre. Wind can be up to 25 knots but usually around 15.
Don't know about Hong Kong from personal experience. Plenty of info on the web - better to read first hand accounts if available.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Chris

G'day Dan,
Early July sees the south-easters starting to blow. They are not super strong -you might need a bigger kite sometimes. You can get waves down at Seminyak/Krobokan (down the beach from Kuta) as the wind becomes cross-shore there and cross-on the further west along the beach you go.
Another popular place is Sanur-there is a kitesuf club (Blue Oasis) there and there are waves on the reefs at mid to high tide(low tide not much water). For the other popular spots, check out the website which gives the spots and wind conditions:http://www.geocities.com/blueoasisbc/home.htm
Mike, should have given you this link before - apologies...
Well guys, enjoy it over there - great place, great people.
Cheers,
Chris

Maybe just best to come back to Australia, or go back via Perth - as wind there in Dec

Hi Mike,
Benoa harbour is in Bali and extends from Serangan (turtle island) to Tanjung Benoa which is next to Nusa Dua on the East part of Bali south of the airport. The harbour reaches to the airport actually(the mangroves). In December, you will get 20 knots IF there is a cyclone or low pressure system down south, but sometimes they don't come in until January or February, so not dependable like the south-easters in July/August which are pretty steady.
WOuld be good for you to pass through Perth as you could be pretty sure of having some wind somewhere on your trip!
Cheers,
Chris

Most wind for Asia is in Vietnam, but it's hassle with visas. Reports are 8-10m weather in mornings with 6-8's for atetr midday.

Boracay, Philippines get steady 12m wind fron mid Nov-Mid Mar.....December is the best month. Piss is dirt cheap. Kites are filthy cheap too with new models out before Europe and down here, bought my Torch 12m with shift bar for under AU$1100.

Big lagoon too, waves outside the reef.

i bought with these guys. www.ocean-republic.com
