Did you catch the doco on the Kokoda campaign last night?
It was very good as those things go. I almost felt I was there only more comfortable.

Part 1 ended with the Japs 40 ks from Port Moresby. They could see the lights and they were cheering and happy with the prospect of imminent victory. We know it didn't end that way.

Does anyone know when part 2 will be aired?

David,
Yeh, I was channel surfing and watched about 3/4 of it. Quite good as I never really knew the full story (didn't even really know the half story)

On next week same time too.

NotWal, yes as sausage indicated its on again next week same time.
Part 2 is just as riveting and spectacular in accuracy.
There a a few uglies to come out in part 2
How the hell those young guys managed, is beyond any persons expectations.
And yes, bloody narrow minded politicians got in the way..... once again.

Yeah, you definitely got the idea that Blainey was not good. Was he really bad, or was it just a difficult situation?

It surprised me in that I thought it was such a good program, I even left the computer alone! I'm bloody glad I wasn't a young guy back then though.

I am also glad that it shows that it from both sides.

Blainey wasn't that flash, no. He was placed in a no win situation as MacArthur insisted, and got his way that he had a direct line to Prime Minster, and by-passed Blainey.
Blaineys worst was the New Guinea campaign. Still to this day it went unexplained why when he visited the front line, he removed the most experienced officer Potts who, to his final rest, never publicly retaliated or explained what happened Blaineys prior in Europe was also shrouded in pompous approach to soldering
Potts and the rest of the front line Officers in New Guinea were the real hero's in this lot Our Political side listening to rubbish from MacArthur, also had a heavy bearing on what happened.
