I didn't have Lasik. I had PRK done in 1995. It's the best thing I have ever done. My vision is still better than 20:20.

Google around. There was an extensive industry-independent FDA survey done couple years ago. Street surveys showed a much lower level of happiness than the industry claims. From memory, was 95 down to 75%. Whatever you find, deal with the odds either way.

Had it done, was one of the 25% that were not so lucky. Not the halo problems, nor one of those can't go out in the sunlight anymore. Just PM me for my flip side story.

'luck.

I had PRK three months ago through Hunter Laser Vision in Newcastle.

No problems and my vision is better than 20/20, Im reading 2 lines below the 20/20 line on the eye chart.

The feeling of not wearing glasses and being able to see while kiting/snowboarding/wakeboarding is great.

The first week was crap but I just slept and listened to music, once the cotacts are removed I was noticing the difference everyday.

If you can have Lasik cause the results are effective the next day.

PM me if you want more info.

I know a few people that have had it done. Haven't heard any negatives from any of them. All seem very happy.

If my distance vision was poor, I would do it, so I could see in the surf, etc.

I'm lucky, my last eye test results were like 40-20. That's actually better than 20-20. 40-20 means I can see/read a small letter from 40 feet away, that the average person can see at 20 feet. He told me I have "eagle eyes".

Hunter laser vision were charging $2850 an eye

Think I got a discount so it was $5100 for both.

There are cheaper places out there but you pay for what you get.

your just make sure your eyesight is stable and not still deteriorating otherwise you will end up wearing glasses or contacts again (like me). Still a ****load better than what it was though.

Hey guys,

I haven't had Lasik but thought I'd mention - there's a new option out there these days - ICLs (Implantable Collamer Contact Lenses). I'm no expert but have looked into it a fair bit. ICLs are placed between the iris and cornea and have 2 pretty big advantages - they can be changed if your eyesight deteriorates more and they are often suitable for people who can't have lasik due to high scripts/thin corneas. Just another option... If anyone has had this done I'd be interested to hear their opinion.

Alot depends on your script and age.If you are short sighted (CL power around -3.00--5.00) and aged 30 ish its a no brainer and you should get 10 good spec free years so long as your cornea are not too thin.
Lots and lots of variables outside those very basic parameters however...not the least of which is price.
Canuk?? I was in Canada last year and from memory the billboard hoardings advertise $500 per eye.South America even less , Sydney $2-2500 and Perth of course $5500-7500 for the pair.

Had it done 3 years ago, highly recommend it, but suggest you consult with an eye surgeon as well as the LASIK chop shops. About $3k per eye and tax deductible.

If you're short sighted and in your 40's then you'll likely need your weaker eye under-corrected or else you'll be in reading glasses straight away. So, in my case, my right eye was fully corrected and my left eye under corrected. Sounds strange but works perfectly. The chop shops don't tell you this.

While in no way offering a medical opinion, apart from the initial consultation and measurements, I am not sure the actual surgeon does much in each of these surgeries. The machine is automated, and I am not sure how much interaction the surgeon has.

That said, if your correction is relatively simple or minimal, I suspect that the outcome would be the same with almost any outfit.

I think this is why there are much cheaper places to get this done, where there is a lot of competition.

I was a bit annoyed once I had mine done that they give you vouchers to give to someone else to get $300 off. I got nothing discounted, and I am supposed to help them find another customer?

I went to the trouble of getting a consultation with two places. I figured this would be a good way of making sure I made a good choice. One place suggested lasik and the other suggested prk. As I was borderline for lasik, I chose PRK, but the recovery period is much longer than with lasik.

You're right, it's the safest of all eye surgery, but I felt more peace of mind going to a surgeon plus the 12 months of post op consults included in the price was worth it

Agreed! You only get one shot at this, so you should make sure you are confident with who ever is doing it.

I'd like to believe that too, but not sure I know.

In this particular industry, how do you know?
Have you compared satisfaction ratings for different shops?
Are there independent satisfaction ratings available for one to decide?

Just curious.

I was in Canada too and that particular ad on bus stops struck me.
I asked around and most people paid a much, much higher price, and somewhat in the range of Sydney prices. Different places have different marketing tricks I suppose.
