For the last week I've been gently rocked off to sleep to the whirr of wheels and the dulcet tones of Phil Liggett and his pal. SBS's Tour coverage is excellent.

All the guys that compete in that competition are elite athletes. Its remarkable what they do. For the first time ever an Aussie is the short odds favourite. Cadel Evans has worn the yellow jersey for 3 (or is it 4) stages now - guts man!

There have been 3 exclusions for drugs so far (EPO) and I expect there will be more.
I don't even know if there are any drug rules in windsurfing let alone drug testing. I wonder what kind of drugs a windsurfing drug cheat would use? ... maybe HGH for weight gain? beta blockers perhaps? maybe steroids for the "go for it" you need. Who would be a likely drug cheat I wonder? Finian? Antoine? There's a couple of big boys. What about Kauli? Where does he find the cajones to do what he does?

Just wondering.

Yes it's a funny one allright. Being strong doesn't mean you'll become a good windsurfer, so steroids are out. General fitness would be a plus, but if you're on the PWA tour I don't think that that would be such a big problem as you'd practice most days.

About the only drug that comes to mind might be a light dose of speed, but unless you take it all the time your reactions would be skewiff so it would do more harm than good.

Perhaps windsurfing is the only olympic category where no drug exists to make you better... what a wonderful sport

I think it is great they are getting caught on the tour. Seems french officials and cycling bodies are getting their act together - amazing the amount of testing that is going on there, yet some idiots still resort to it - a great shame that success means more than self-respect.

Speaking about ups and downs in sport and self-respect - perhaps it is time a certain AFL team got their Master Chemist get his chemistry set out again. They have never had an issue with self-respect.

And the word of the month is "pelleton". I've been trying to work it into everyday conversations, just to confuse people, like, "...the pelleton caught up to me at the red light..." Nice scenery on the tour though.
