Saw some awesome baseball today in Tokyo. Just local league stuff. I'm pretty sure I was watching a top division, because those boys could really play. Best baseball I've ever seen, live (naked eye).
I was sitting right behind the catcher, plenty of curve balls and variations. No stadiums, just 1 bench seat. Some of the players were dad's, and there were a number of 3-7 years olds floating around, and Mum's probably having a break at home, or out shopping.
Similar to Sheffield Shield (State Cricket) and top level District Cricket, tiny crowds...
A few blocks away, was a Little League match, on a small diamond in amongst the unit blocks. They were short on players, so the coaches joined in on the field. 40 year old coach, and maybe 65 year old Grand Dad coach on the other team. Seemed that they modified the rules for the adults... Appeared that 1 strike, adults were out (not 3 strikes). 9 year old kid pitching at an adult, everyone all kitted up, pretty funny!
Anyone got some contacts of someone to hook up with for a surf? (I'm on a work trip).

Some of the best cricketers I've seen are on the streets of Lahore, Pakistan. These kids and blokes were really good. They were playing with old crappy bats and balls, using garbage cans or a dead donkey as the stumps. I guess the national team is crap due to corruption and politics. Its a microcosm of the afflictions facing Pakistan as a whole. However the Pakistanis achieve for nothing what probably costs the Australian tax payer tens of millions of dollars through the Australian Institute of Sport and the Cricket Academy.
Lahore and Pakistan is a hell of a place, a real eye opener on so many levels.
I went there in 1999. No bloody way would I go there now with all the crap going on over there now.

I'm in Tokyo at the moment.
Where was the game?
At the big dome near Tokyo dome city (with the roller coaster)?
