It is in inverse proportion to the newcomer's ability to be friendly, ask about the rules, not drop in, and have a beer afterwards without the need to talk about how good they are.
Some people are locals real quick
Ok fair call its not just how long you been going to or living at a place its how you act!
What about once you have made the cut, does that give you the right to behave like an arse?
Does a so called local have the right to drop in, be unfriendly ect ?
Hmmmm depends on the context. My above post was partly true and partly tongue in cheek.
But anyway, no, locals don't have the right act like arseholes.
Some locals may be inclined to become that way due to the vistors' behaviour. Fair enough a
small minority of visitors, but still quite a few don't ask rules, drop in really bad, camp in the carpark and leave rubbish everywhere and so on.
You can only bite your tongue for so long, and once you start giving the tourists an attitude readjustment, pretty soon you are just rude to almost everyone as you get sick of it.
That is pretty sad when it is all about a fun hobby, but it is human behaviour huh.
And really we don't have it as bad (windsurf perspective here) as some surf spots overseas where it is locals first and then a certain number of visitors and you will not be allowed out if there is already 20 out
