I've heard great reports about Wittenoom... Ticks most of your boxes!
Just kidding!
But that brings me onto the topic of "Compulsory Land Acquisition". I saw a show about Wittenoom, and the last few residents being offered $30k (roughly), to "get out of town" in a Compulsory Land Acquisition. I watched this kinda recently, like within the last 2-3 years...
I too umbrage to the amount offered, just like the last residents did... In fact, those last few people just stayed, because $30k couldn't buy them Jack ****e anywhere else in this grand land!... One guy/couple(?) had awesome views too...
My point is, the Property Valuation is not relevant... The building is worth more than $30k to start with!... But, it's not what the property is worth, it's all about where will they move, and how much is property there...! The offer should be something like this... A committee suggests 4 or 5 towns within 3-5 hours of Witternoom, and then look at "roughly comparable" houses in each town. Then the resident being displaced should literally get to choose between the $280k house in Tom Price, or the $325k house in Kalbarri... $30k in that instance was COMPLETE RUBBISH!
Secondly, all of us should be somewhat understanding when it is time for a Compulsory Acquisition. Unfortunately, every so often, and few families get the "tap on the shoulder"... and Hey, you need to move! Bloody unfortunate, and I feel for those who don't want to move... But sometimes, cities just grow, and we need to expand our cities, and sometimes we (as a city), need a few blocks of land,
for the greater good of the entire city...
A quick "google" of property today, Tom Price is circa $600k to buy in... Kalbarri is about $400++ Quickly moving into $500k+... So if I was on the committee (the Wittenoom Compulsory Acquisition Committee)..., I would have $600k on the table, plus $20k to move, $25k stamps, and a $25k sweetener)...
