Mate went to Antigua in the carribean and picked up work pretty quickly as delivery crew with minimal sailing experience. He ended up there for 8 years and became a and skipper himself delivering yachts from florida and newport to the carribean quite regularly. he also developed a massive coke habit and picked up a STD but that's another story

.
Once they work out your not a wanker, go stupid once out in blue water and are prepared to do any type of work (unblocking dunnies, scrubbing decks and hulls, polishing stainless, checking the toilet rolls are ok and no skiddies in the guests toilets etc) then you will have no problem getting work and recommended to other boats. If your a traddie or have practical skills these will be of benefit.
Just go to any yacht club and ask around at the bar, that's where the skippers will be hanging out.
