yeah sorry, i hate to look at these images, but you've got to.

I've been sailing and playing with boats for a long time, and like most aussies, spend most time outdoors.

I'd decided a while ago that any new tshirt or boat gear has to have long sleeves, plus there are multiple hats lying around the place so you or visitors don't get caught out.

It's bad s**t for all of us.

The danger of melanoma cannot be under emphasised, neither can any life threatening cancer.

There is a very interesting debate that has been going on for over one hundred years over whether cancer is caused by pleomorphic bacteria.

As someone who has had regular visits to the surgeon to have solar keratoses removed, numerous spots burned off and a recent treatment of Effudix I can speak with some experience.

Effudix is a Chemo cream which lists side effects that include open sores. Thankfully when I used it all I suffered from was visible inflammation. I was quite relieved.

I had a myriad of spots on my forehead, my ears and the tops of my cheeks that showed every indication that they would progress to the level of having to be removed.

I used the cream in a very local spot to start with but applied the whole tube over three weeks as stipulated and it worled miracles.All of the crusts disappeared apart from one I did not treat on my shoulder.

I mention this because I want to demonstrate that I am talking from first hand experience. I have had 22 stitches from surgical removal of keratosis that had progressed to the irritable stage. All autopsies were negative.

It is obvious that over exposure to the sun is the root cause of the problem. I have spent a life time in the sun in Africa and Australia and every where that I burned badly suffered long term damage.

But what actually causes it?

I am pretty much on the side of the pleomorphic theory and that is that bacteria colonise damaged cells that the body does not have the immunity to withstand. There is a lot of research on this available on the internet. Make of it what you will, but it stands to reason that the rot should start with something that is tranferrable.

Sunburn on a light pigmented skin causes major trauma to skin cells. It stands to reason that bacteria would invade the burns gradually enlarging trauma zones.

Quite a lot of evidence out there as well that there are alternatives like oxidation therapies which prove to be highly successful.

I read about a Japanese cancer authority who will not operate until the patient has been drinking ionised water for six weeks. It raises the ph and bacteria do not like alkaline environments at the same time as it removes all the ****e that the water authorities add to provide clean reticulated water.

Cheers for that Jetstream, It reminded me that I am due for a check up so all booked in now :). but...........I dont know if anyone else has this problem but I rang around trying to find a skin clinic to go to and the earliest I can get in is 31st march!!! Health services in the illawarra leave a lot to be desired really.

The good ones are hard to get into and 3mth wait is usual. If you have something odd or unusual don't wait, ask for an urgent appointment.

i am skeptical of the mole scan places, my mates brother had a dodgy one on his forehead and went in for a "scan", they didn't say anything about the one he was sus about until he told them to relook at it.

i think best is to take pics of your body with a decent camera every 6 months and re-check them to see any changes. early detection is key but more so is prevention
