Anyone got a Mitsubishi Triton ute that can give me the good, bad and ugly on them. I'm looking at a 2011 diesel, 4x4, 2.4l with very low kms with the view of eventually fitting a slide on camper to the alloy tray. Any info appreciated, thanks.

I had a 2007 GLX-R 3.2 Diesel Dual-cab 4x4 from new up until last year. Only sold it because we wanted a higher towing capacity. Had over 250 000 Ks on the clock when sold and still tight as a drum. Solid chassis and drive train and not prone to rust.

Things to be aware of are-

EGR- your inlet manifold and EGR valve are prone to getting clogged up with oil and soot. There's a electrical solution for this, but it is only for "OFF ROAD USE"

Timing belts on the 2.5l diesel need regular replacing.

Lots of info on the web about these vehicles like on newtriton.com. Parts can be sourced at reasonable prices and with OBDII wifi dongle and an iPhone app you can get access to the computer to diagnose problems and reset codes.

With a lift, bigger tyres and ECU custom tune these utes make pretty good off-road rigs.

I bought a MN glx+ 4x4 in 2015 for 28k brand new. It's fairly agricultural compared to other dual cabs but it's been bulletproof with not one problem in 50k kms. Runs 32" mud tyres without a lift, done a bit of 4wding, mainly beach stuff.

EGR blank is something i may look into and i always thought most mitsubishis were fairly rubbish and had heard so many horror stories but i couldn't be happier. Value for money it was better than buying a 2nd hand hilux / nav etc. 2 of my mates have / had 2012 models and other than resale were also good cars.

Had the last model for 3 1/2 years completely trouble free, great offroad( just need to keep the turbo humming) great fuel economy, gets up quickly, just swapped it for the latest model, a much more refined vehicle crazy fuel economy
Due to the 6 speed box, more power and nmtrs of torque than the Hilux, pulled my tipper with 2 ton last week no dramas ,
Also the door latch is the best bottle opener known to man, love that car

I borrowed one for a few days, did about a thousand k's. My impressions were all good, went well, nice to drive, great economy, nice rig.
Except for 2 things: absolutely no power until you're properly on boost. Seriously, if you're caught out in the wrong gear you might as well have a nap till it wakes up. You'd get used to this pretty quick.
The other is the ride - very wallowy particularly from front to back with side load, for example going from accelerating to braking or reverse, and turning the wheel a bit at same time. I mostly had about 100kgs of luggage in the back, so not an empty tray either. I would want to fix that if I owned one.

Not much to say, except I pulled a mate's Triton out of a bog 2 days ago....

Went to our mud crabbing in mates diesel triton, had to let tyres down and push and dig to get it moving (just).

I travel the same track in my 80 series, no air from the tryes, no slowing down , absolutly no effort, air con on .

Just sayin.

I recovered an 80 series at Wilbinga that was well and truly stuck. With mud tyres @16psi i had no issues. A week later my mate in his triton had to snatch me out up at Wagoe...

If you go 4wding, you will eventually get bogged (more often than not its driver related) and more than likely get recovered by another make.. Just sayin

If all 4 wheels are going around, and the tyres are the same, and you're not extending anyone's suspension travel, pound for pound, there's no reason they all wouldn't be the same...,.Just saying.

If you are looking at a Triton , make sure you get the 3.2 ltr Diesel . They are really strong reliable and if left unmodified are the best on fuel consumption .
Great utes and all the problems that the early models had have been fixed since around 2010.

Are you sure your not thinking of the Ford Ranger?
I dont believe (happy to be corrected) that Mitsubishi offer a 3.2ltr option.

Ranger have 3.2 ltr in the 4wd and 2.6 in the 2wd.

You made your misses ride in the tray????

that's a bit harsh. Just sayin .............

Oops my mistake the 3.2 diesel is only available in the Pajero .
Thought they were the same engine , however not so, the Triton is still a great ute.
Pitty they don't have the same engine.

the 3.2ltr 4M41 engine was in the triton from 2006 till they went with the 2.5ltr motor.
It doesn't have quite the power of the 2.5ltr, but is a really, really good engine.
