I am on Telstra nextG and it sucks balls. Well, probably not as bad as my i-mate JASJAM sucks balls. It's been behaving a bit better now since its third time to the repairers though, I think they found a manufacturing fault since the first two times it went they just replaced parts blindly and gave it back to me with the same problems. The last time it was in the shop with 160+ others waiting for the same fix, and it's been fully functional since.

Still, it's a bastard to try and do some simple things, like copy a single addressbook entry from the device to the sim card. I wouldn't get one again given the chance.

My wife and I got a virgin to virgin plan

Flat fee of $15.00 per month (includes calls)
25c first minute, 5c per minute thereafter
5c per text
Phones were free, but you had to sign up for two years.
I think it costs 45c to ring non virgin phone users

I went with 3 again a deal too good. Two flash phones, 49 a month inc calls txt etc

It seems there is not a lot of diff in the plans themselves they sting you with handset repayments and high cost of calls. This is where 3 came out on top.

The range however aint great they say they default to telstra when out of area.........we will see and kn complain.

Have got a pre paid telstra deal on my existing handset for the country

Mobiles are a pain in the arse. Bring back shouting

PR
The only and I mean only time they are any good is when I want call somebody other than that
Work gives you a mobile and all of a sudden your available 24/7
Interviewed a candidate a week or so back, advised him that a mobile was part of package, he asked how much extra in his package to carry a Company mobile The sad thing, after thinking about it later, he was probably right. And no he didn't want the job

Talking about cooking your brain with a phone...

OK let's do the calculations. My reasonably new phone has a 3.7V 900mAh battery, which lasts about an hour of talk time.

This equates to 3.33 watt-hours of energy that the battery can produce before it goes flat.

So talking on a mobile would be like holding a 3.33 watt light bulb up against your head for an hour. This wouldn't get very hot, or at least, your head would be quite capable of radiating that heat away from your skull/ear.

3 watts is nothing. A barely-visible car tail light is more than that. And this calculation assumes that 100% of the battery energy goes into heating up your skull, which clearly isn't the case, because some form of signal is making it to the base station.

So if microwave radiation from a phone can cook an egg, I'm a monkeys uncle...

You have neglected the 'incoming' microwave band radiation that it is receiving

Yeah, it only defaults to Telstra's digital range, which still really only covers the metro area. Pretty much Joondalup to Mandurah.

As you said, a prepaid cdma or nextG is still required if you are out of the metro area.

Anyway if you are on three, you can call me for 10mins for free

I bought the treo 750 it’s a smart pda phone so fknose why I am using it because im a dumb shyte. But it’s has good reception in the country (that's past midland gate for you city slickers) internet browse is ok - not great, main thing that appeals to me is the mp3 player as it saves lugging around one of those to the gym as well as the phone and also the keyboard makes it quick to type sms's. It's what every geek should own or anyone that likes text messaging sex hotlines as you can do it with one hand.
