How far would you go to stop intruders to bash you and your family in your house?
I just installed a perimeter alarm that will let me know if an intruder is around the house (sensors are outside the windows) before he can break in. I will have some time to be sure that I am ready to receive the bastard the way it deserves! Trust me I will make him squeal like a pig with a baseball bat up his bottom or a 12 gauge in his nostrils! But I won't get bashed…… I hope![}:)]

I think you will spend the rest of your life chasing cats and birds and other wildlife around your yard with a baseball bat.
Those things just go off all the time for no reason.

So far so good had it for 3 weeks no false alarm so far. I have a few cats and it is set not to detect small creatures and pets you need to break at least 2 beams before it is activated.... this is new tech! Expensive but it works! I also believe that the best protection is that the would be burglar can see it and "hopefully" will go to an easier target (next door )! It is from a reputable alarm company and I have a full refund warranty if I am not happy with the setup!

Well I hope yours does work, felix. One of my neighbours has an indoor alarm system also installed by a reputable company. Damn thing goes off all the time. Day, night, you name it. Nobody pays any attention to it so it's pretty pointless turning the stupid thing on.

I had friends who kept loaded weapons and baseball bats and stuff around for protection from home invasion. But, of course, they were criminals, or hung out with criminals.

Are you sure you are not a criminal?

The same guys had stories of fist fights over minor road rage incidents, occasionally implements were used, but only the other vehicle.

Apart from a few incidents of the very rich (and possibly dodgey), I have never heard of an ordinary person having a home invasion or anything like that.

BTW You don't want to claim a discount on your insurance because you have an alarm system. If you forget to set it and you get robbed then your insurance is void.

I never set my alarm anymore. Apart from false alarms, if you go away for a few days and it goes off, nothing would be a greater incentive to thieves than seeing a flashing blue light running for ages without attention.

Had a chat with the alarm guys and the indoor system is not good with cats.... it is ok with dogs but cats like to go up on top of furniture and are going close to motion detectors! A big spider crawling on the sensor would set it off!
the new tech has no motion detectors but infrared beams, you need to cut 2 beams and a cat is too small to do so!

I heard of peeps getting attacked in their houses cause the bastards were so high on drugs they got the wrong place!
Happens more and more in WA anyway! I do not believe that some of the oldies that got bashed were crims!

Forgot to mention that my alarm will send me a SMS if any sensor is trigged and I can call it and interact with the system over the phone, I can ever tell if someone is ringing the door bell and answer it over the phone talking to the visitor making him believe someone is home!

I sleep with the doors unlocked... hell I go to work and leave my place unsecured.
I don't have insurance or an alarm.
And I have no object to defending myself if we had an intruder.

My neighbor had the same thing until one day i went around there and pointed out to him that his motion sensor in his front room was pointing towards the window...so when he left his blinds open it was going off at any movement of the trees outside...

Cool man!, I used to play Forts when I was a kid 2!, Perimeter Sensors are a must for any good Fort.. Ours were simple string perimeters like in the movie Predator, except ours released (slightly imaginary) Velociraptors!.. I suggest camouflage as your next upgrade, and a rations of M&M's.. Of course, that's only if you have already established radio communication with the other allied Forts in your area.. Also try and get a Spy to infiltrate some Enemy Forts, thats a sweet move..

Yeah everyone should have the means to defend themselves against those who break in to their home. If a few violent home invaders met a violent end at the hands of the resident it might give their contemporaries a few second thoughts.

Unfortunately in this society if you defend yourself you are likely to be charged by the police.

You & I both FlySurfer - although I do lock the doors at night (for kid's protection, just in case).

Intruder would need protection if they decided to wander in at night! Apart from that, (hypothetically) if WA was the 'USA' state...I live in 'Canada'!

I really pity anyone who feels the need to sleep with a baseball bat. I leave my car keys in the car at night. (gee that will probably let me get a quick getaway if we have a home invasion) the backdoor key is in the backdoor, if its going to be windy and we are going out we might lock the door so that it wont blow open and only a rocket scientist could work out where the key is hidden. The garage doesn't have doors and the shed door has a padlock but I don't know where the key is so cut it off a couple of years back. The firearms are under secure lock and key in a secure safe

Why are people out to bash you and your family? Perhaps the easiest way to be safe is stop whatever it is you are doing to make them want to do this.

Are you living in Australia or The Congo?

I always go out the back, through the garage.
Mrs always goes out the front.

Well one day she told me she lost her keys and they were probably at work, so I had to leave the key outside somewhere.
After a couple days she finally said she couldn't find them.

I took the trash out and walking back in I found the keys in the door... ~5 days after her losing them. (I'd taken the trash out before but didn't notice)

I also once left my keys in the mailbox for 2 days... the mailbox is on a footpath.

I sleep like a baby or an adult on GABA a night... there's no chance I'd wake up and be OK to use a baseball bat if I had an intruder.

SOG, I had a similar situation.... lived in a VERY low crime area, neighbors house was used as a holiday house, they were there every second weekend or so. Their alarm would go off all the time, the first half dozen times I checked on his house to make sure all was ok.
After being woken up heaps of times by false alarms I politely asked my neighbour if he could do something to reduce the alarms. He refuses. Apparently it was not his problem.
I ask him for his phone number so I can call him when it goes off and he can reset it by phone. He refuses.

In the end, each time it false alarmed, persons unnamed would turn his power off at the meter (yes, batteries do keep the alarm going, but not forever).

As for the freezer full of rotten food that awaited his eventual return.....
Apparently that is not my problem

Bad news.... last night in Perth 2 families got bashed after breaking and ofenders left with some cash (reported in the news) how many more go unreported?
Last Monday night my work colleague heard some noise in his master bathroom went to check found couple of guys trying to get in by forcing the window open! He shouted at them and they ran to hell leaving behind a jacket and some tools (good for forensic). They had the time to break into his car before and stole ID cards and stuff from it. Cops came in ½ hour, did what they had to do and left. After the cops departure a car full of **** for brain in da hood stop in front of his house shouting abuse and telling him they have his ID and will take care of him…….WTF????? Call cops again with rego.... car reported stolen!
Result the wife and kids are terrorised and wont go back in the house before he puts safety screens to all windows! PS he is no criminal!
So what do you do?? Sit back and give them your cash next time?
