This disaster is more than EXTREMELY sad

But the companies NEED TO PAY!!! grrr

"Pike River Coal is about 29%-owned by New Zealand Oil & Gas Ltd., with India's Saurashtra World Holding Private Ltd. and Gujarat NRE Coke Ltd. owning 5.5% and 7.1%, respectively. "

Bank opens fund for miners' families

The Commonwealth Bank is accepting donations from anyone wanting to help families affected by New Zealand's mine disaster.

Two Queenslanders, Willy Joynson, 49, and Josh Ufer, 25, from Townsville, are among 29 miners presumed dead after two blasts at the Pike River Coal Mine near Greymouth.

"I know a lot of Australians will want to do all they can to help the families of the 29 miners," bank spokesman Ross McEwan said on Thursday.

"The Commonwealth Bank is collecting donations in all our branches and has opened an account for people to make donations online."
Donations can be made at any branch or online: Account name: Pike River Support Fund, BSB: 062 005, Account number: 10857625.

Oh boy I'm going to be shot to pieces here, the sad fact is poor buggers are going leg up in horrible ways every day here in Aus and around the world. Yes it is very sad but I'm guessing they are like me and have a work super that has a death clause and there will be a work compo of some sort. I do donate to poor buggers when they get hit by the poo stick so I'm not a complete s/head.

The thing with this mine disaster that really pulled at my heart, having a 18 year old looking for work, is the 17 year old on his first day at work

I'd suggest if you guys have any money left over, throw some pennies this way www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/General-Discussion/Chat/My-son-use-to-be-able-to-surf-and-windsurf-but/

Sorry GD for the neg post and a little hijack, honest.

I tend to agree.

Compensation from the mining company should be adequate.

Commonwealth bank have made billions this year. Even they could cover the compensation fund.

My spare $$ goes to leukaemia foundation. Much closer to home for me...

But very sad for the grieving.

Condolences....

I knew Malcolm Campbell(Scottish lad) he did some backhoe work for me a couple of years ago while staying here in Barmera at his Uncles place, hopefully it was quick exit and they didn't suffer.
