I agree, live and let live.
Any activity or sport is good.

And if there are a couple of good looking chicks out there, that much the better

I used to share your sentiment about flat water paddling, then last year decided to throw down a bit of a challenge to myself and paddle the 111km Hawkesbury Canoe Classic, funnily enough on the Hawkesbury just north of Sydney. Never before had I realised the potential of the Swan, but when you start paddling from Freo to Guildford as a training run you start to lookat the river in another light. I now train at least three times a week on the river and it keeps meout of trouble and out of the gym.

Paddling a canoe must be fun, you have a natural paddling position IMO as you are sitting and surely must be a lot more enjoyable than SUP. I prefer to use the power of the wind to move on water, it is where I get my excitment! When I was 13 my dad bought me a canoe and it had a little gaff type of sail with a jib and it is how I learnt sailing.......... paddling never really appealed to me. i did a lot of down hill ski and I tried once nordic ski IMO it could be to ski what SUP could be to surfing, could never be excited doing nordic ski!

About 3/4 of the way through all the canoers and kyakers would paddle past and say how much they wish they could stand up and after 10 hours (15:30 all together) all I wanted to do was sit down!

Funny you mention nordic skiing as I started to do a bit of it when I was living in Canada for three reasons: to get me out and moving for fitness, another thing to do and good prep for backcountry touring.

It depends what excites you.

I used to do heaps of back country skiing and cruising the trails at the cross country resorts. I have had some of my most pleasurable and fun experiences alone on the trails. Conversely, skiing or boarding on porridge sludge, standing in a lift queues with crowds of people (some of who are seriously horrible people), spending hundreds for the privilege. I know what I prefer.

SUP is the same. It feels good. It gets you into places you would not be able to get into in any other way. It's fun.
