So Manhands has had a guts full and wants to get away for the next school break in the first two weeks of October. Always my most hated time of year to be anywhere in WA as the water is at it's coldest and it's generally blowing its ring out everywhere. Don't sail or koite.
Preferences are for surfing and fishing, we have a small punt for enclosed waters to play with. Will only have 10-12 nights to play with so anything much past Karratha is pushing the envelope as far as drive time with a couple of young window lickers in the back to put up with.
Is Exxy still worth a punt? Maybe Warroora without the boat? Or just brave the cold and head to Manjy/Pemberton and suck it up and don't get waves? Maybe Carnarvon and just fish the Fascine?

Meh.... I hate Spring! Any previous experience welcome.....

Taking a bit of a punt, October being that month that could go either way, still pumping or summer like pus. But in the same situation, I'd hightail it to Exy. Waters going to be warm , waves if a decent winter low and cold front sends some swell up the coast, if there's no waves you can fish, dive, eat prawns and ogle backpackers, and there's still plenty of fishing options if the winds in. Chase spangs inside the reef on the west side if its Easterly, throw small poppers at oyster stacks at the bottom of the gulf if its westerly. Hours of fun for the kids. Bride can work on her summer tan a couple of months early. Take some crab nets too.

If that fails, try the Gt Southern. Definitely colder, but some surf plus outstanding fishing, or river and estuary fishing if your tinny is too small for the ocean.

Why not head overseas? Bali or close by islands? Wouldn't the cost altogether be similiar to the amount it'd cost to go on a roadtrip?

Overseas would be hard work with young kids Glassssy.
Transport issues with carseats etc.
Bali itself is about as appealing as a wet fart to us.

Just spent last weekend at Walpole. Winter special was 4 nights for the price of 3 in a 6 berth cabin for $57 a night for 2 adults. Nothing flash but had a main room with a double bed, and another with a kitchen, 2 sets of bunk beds, flat screen tv and reverse cycle air con/heating. Boat ramp was less than 100mts away. Pretty quiet down there due to the cold, but that's why I like it. Caught some small black bream just near the holiday park. Went 4wding out to some awesome coastline, cliffs and beaches. There was some solid swell, and was offshore the last couple of days. Tree top walk is there ( we didn't bother, done it before ), but we did go for a couple of free walks in the giant tingle forest to some well known icons. Also went to peaceful bay for a day trip ( 20 mins away ) went 4wding out around the back, caught some stonker skippy and break sea cod. People were fishing both the protected ocean bay at peaceful and the Walpole/Nornalup inlet in small tinnys.

Either that or Denmark, or Albany where we are from. Always a solid swell somewhere or a spot that is fishable. Google earth is your friend I find these days. I like Exmouth too, but cant hack the crowds. I went up there last January when it was stinking hot and little to no crowds. Wasn't many waves, but the fishing and weather was pretty good. Either way, you suck for having a holiday when i'm not. And no, I don't care if you "deserve it".
