interesting letter, I will be interested to see over time ,where the majority of his wealth goes.
having worked for him many years ago , I found the letter rather out of character, but maybe he's changed
rather vague on grammatic detail and authentificion too

Maybe you missed the sorry saga of twiggy and gina bleating about having to pay tax on the billions they were making either digging up australias natural resources, or in ginas case receiving royalties for someone else digging up those resources. Twiggy went as far as to say that taxing the wealthy was communism. If billionaires really want to contribute, the best way is to pay tax at the same rate as the rest of us. forget the top tax bracket, how about paying the 30 percent most average people pay. As of last year FMG was yet to pay any tax in australia. Maybe twiggy may start this benevolence by no longer screwing the traditional owners whose land hes mining on and pay them a fair royalty. I encourage success, but i have no time for excess and twiggy, gina and their ilk are the epitome of excess!

No offense pugwash, but an article in wikipedia, possibly penned by twiggys pr machine is hardly testimony to the mans generosity. I certainly understand the difference between the twiggy and the corporation he runs and almost single handedly controls. Im also aware that the employment covenent which he helped set up (a nice idea, credit where it is due) was almost totally subsidised and funded by the federal government. After auditing the program it failed to deliver anywhere near the number of jobs because it failed to address the underlying factors behind structural unemployment of Aboriginal Australians. It assumed in line with twiggys personal beliefs that all that was required to fix aboriginal unemployment was a willing benevolent employer or corporation. As for comparing twiggy to gina, if you read what they say about tax, and the perogative of the wealthy to do with their money as they please, unfettered by trivialities such as taxation and the rule of law or civil society, then there is absolutely nothing between them. The primary difference is that Twiggy is a whole lot better than Gina at playing the pr game. As for what i do and give, well unlike twiggy i personally dont need to brag about it and plaster it in the papers so i can use it as another mechanism to prosecute my case for avoiding paying tax. I would not feel this way about twiggy if he hadn't spent the last decade doing everything possible to avoid paying tax at every level. Real philanthropy is what you give after youve paid your fair share of tax. It not what you do to avoid paying your fair share.

hang on a second, can't you claim donations to registered charities against taxable income...?

So his charitable foundation will be set up with a board of directors and staff to administer the good work.

How much will get to those who need it and how much will be used to pay the people that run it?

Just a front really as the board will be him, his family and other cohorts, whilst management will be much of the same.
