Only in Australia!!

It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890.00 and each can also get an additional $580.00 in social assistance for a total of $2,470.00.

A single pensioner who, after contributing to the growth and development of Australia for 40 to 50 years, receives only a monthly maximum of $1,012.00 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!

Let's send this to all Australians so we can all be ticked off and maybe we can get the refugees cut back to $1,012.00 and the pensioners up to $2,470.00 and enjoy some of the money we were forced to submit to the Government over the last 40 or 50 years.

I did see this email a few weeks ago.

I also heard an immigration office on the radio only last week talking about this circulating email. It is totally untrue.

The only extra they receive is a greeting/settlement "pack" which does have a small amount of cash to enable necessities to be purchased.

That is all the Govt gives them. The govt do not assist with finding homes/jobs etc. Service groups (like Lions, Rotary etc) look after this.

I would certainly like to hope it is the truth. I think that refugees need all the help that they can get, however I also would like to see the elderly pensioners of our country get all the support they need too.

Being Australian is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for A Belgian beer, then on the way home, grabbing an Indian curry or A Turkish kebab, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV.

Oh and...... Only in Australia ... can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

Only in Australia ... do supermarkets make sick people walk all
the way to the back of the shop to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in Australia ... do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries and a DIET coke.

Only in Australia ... do banks leave both doors open and chain the pens to the counters.

Only in Australia ... do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and lock our junk and cheap lawn mower in the
garage.

NOT TO MENTION...

3 Aussies die each year testing if a 9v battery works on their
tongue.

58 Aussies are injured each year by using sharp knives instead
of screwdrivers.

31 Aussies have died since 1996 by watering their Christmas tree while the fairy lights were plugged in.

8 Aussies had serious burns in 2000 trying on a new jumper with
a lit cigarette in their mouth.

A massive 543 Aussies were admitted to Emergency in the last two years after opening bottles of beer with their teeth.

and finally.........

In 2000 eight Aussies cracked their skull whilst throwing up
into the toilet.

Yep, it is funny, particularly to Canadians for the obvious reason you have highlighted.(dare not say just in case somebody gets offended) First time I said it to a Canadian Mine Manager,"jump in me Ute and we'll head on back to town" he couldn't stop laughing when he saw the vehicle and realised I wasn't pulling the p1zzzzzz
But its like a Canadian naming his Ute after one of our local family groups and saying, jump into my .......... and I will run you into town

Claims that refugees in Australia get substantially higher government payments than pensioners are completely unfounded
According to this widely circulated protest email, a refugee who arrives in Australia receives a considerably higher monthly benefit payment from the Australian government than do aged pensioners who have lived and worked in the country for years before retirement. The message has caused a great deal of anger and resentment among recipients and has been discussed at length on various talk-back radio shows and in letters to the editor in newspapers across the country.

However, the information in the message is total nonsense and in no way reflects the real level of entitlements for refugees or pensioners.
A September 2007 media release from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) notes:
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has refuted false claims circulating on the internet that refugees settling in Australia receive more in benefit payments than Australian pensioners.

'The figures quoted in the email bear no resemblance to income-support payments to pensioners, or to payments to refugees settling in Australia,' DIAC spokesman Sandi Logan said today.

'The text and figures in the email appear to have originated in Canadian emails, websites and internet chatrooms. We suspect that the email circulating here has been cut and pasted from these sources.

'In Australia, refugees granted permanent visas may gain access to benefits on the same basis and at the same rates as other Australian permanent residents.

'Refugees with temporary visas do not have access to the full range of benefits - they are only eligible for Centrelink Special Benefits on the same basis and rates as other Australian residents.

'There is no separate rate of benefit payments for refugees.'

Mr Logan said refugees received no cash payments under Australia's Integrated Humanitarian Settlement Strategy.
Former Howard government minister Mal Brough also refuted the claims in an August 2007 media release:
Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Mal Brough, today warned age pensioners to be alert to an internet scam, which appears designed to anger pensioners over the level of financial support provided to refugees in Australia.

"Emails are being sent to older Australians, claiming refugees are receiving welfare payments of $2,500 per month and comparing that to the age pension," Mr Brough said.

"The claims in the email are blatant lies, which are also being repeated on websites and chat rooms."What concerns me most is that the scam targets older people and uses the plight of refugees to whip up discontent.
Moreover, the message is not even home-grown. In fact it is a mutant sibling of a protest email that has circulated in both Canada and the United States. And the claims in the message are as equally false in those countries as they are in Australia.

Thus, forwarding this misinformation will serve only to create unnecessary anger among Australian citizens and unwarranted resentment of refugees. If you receive this message, please do not pass it on to others and please let the sender know that the information it contains is untrue.

Mate - you are not alone. This sort of stuff gets most people fired up before they check it out. That is exactly how it is designed by the little jack-booted weeds in their dank, dark basements.

There seems to be HEAPS of this garbage circulating lately (seen the 'Holocaust studies removed from Kentucky/UK/Sydney university due to Muslim students' ones??)

You have to really wonder about the sickness that drives the people that create the lie in the 1st place though.

Do yourself a favour and check out hoax slayer in future.

Maybe send the link to anyone you have forwarded the email to also. It might be a tad embarressing but better to fess up than spread the lie further I reckon

The following are results from an OZ-words Competition where entrants were asked to take an Australian word, alter it by one letter only, and supply a witty definition. Clearly, you need to be an Aussie to understand.

Billabonk: to make passionate love beside a waterhole.
Bludgie: a partner who doesn't work, but is kept as a pet.
Dodgeridoo: a fake indigenous artefact.
Fair drinkum: good-quality Aussie wine.
Flatypus: a cat that has been run over by a vehicle.
Mate****: all your flatmate's belongings, lying strewn around the floor.

Shagman: an unemployed male, roaming the Australian bush in search of sexual activity.
Yabble: the unintelligible language of Australian freshwater crustaceans.
Bushwanker: a pretentious drongo, who reckons he's above average when it comes to handling himself in the scrub.
Crackie-daks: 'hipster' tracksuit pants.

And for the Kiwi's amongst us:

Shornbag: a particularly attractive naked sheep.
