Are people really getting slugged up to $250 a week rent hikes, or is this Sunday Times reporting at its best?

There saying Burswood and Freo have almost doubled in rent for the past 12 months. Illuka is over the 800 a week mark!

I don't want to get all capitalist/socialist here, but if this is really occuring- this persist of profit at others pain is sickening.

Perhaps the Goverment could look after its population that doesnt have 100k wages and force BHP/RIO/Shell/Woodside to build homes for their workers rather than draining the rental market of properties. People in retail, sales, teachers, police can also need to be able to afford a place to sleep.

P.S I don't have anything against investors, but if you can justify massive rent increases -ie 30% I'm calling you a bit of a dog.

P.S.S. I don't rent.

P.S.S.S - Yes I said dog!

I was paying $380 a week in Willetton, earlier this yr. Then it was raised to $400. Still i thought it wasnt too bad, as i had been paying $320 a week for Karragullen in the hills before. Now i share with two others at lynwood paying $140 a week for a room. If i want to get back into my own place now ill have to up my job as renting inc all utilities will clear me out every week as rental prices have risen. I dont know about North Perth, i can imagine the rent being a lot more there.

Alot of these stories are written by REIWA or others with a vested interest, because half the newspaper is realestate adds and the other half is builders advertising........... The paper does as it's told and prints the story as a news story.

I didn't buy the paper, but read a similar article on line and most of the comments were calling it as BS.

Did it mention somewhere in the article that with rents being so high and having to live in a tent and house prices so cheap..... NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY?

I was paying $510 for a 1brm in Canberra. It was literally a choice of that unit, or another for the same price. And I didn't have any time to choose because there were literally (really literally) no hotel rooms available for a few days because Parliament was sitting, or something. The owner had abuot four properties in Canberra, he said over the last four years he hadn't had a day they were vacant.

I've also paid $350 in Adelaide, $400 in Melbourne for a studio. And now I'm off to Sydney.

It's the same all over, or worse.

P.S. You only live once - tempting:

Really?????? If you have the opportunity to make a max of your assets why not! If your are an investor the only charity you would run is the one where you are the first recipient! Let the gov. give free hand out to queue jumpers! If I sell let say a car for $5000.00 and have a buyer at $ 3500.00 that cry poor and another one that say there.... $ 6000.00 cash should I sell to the first one or take the risk to be called a dog and make a good profit??????
