Good on 'em I say.
Who cares if they didnt warn the public before they all got the flu? Who cares if it was just before the afternoon rush hour? Who cares if thousands of footy fans are late to the game or have trouble getting home?
Its the only way that they can actually get their point across. They want more pay.
Basically thousands of people every day depend on them. We dont see them at the front of the train. The drivers never get a thankyou. We just hop on and hop off.
There are so many whinging people who have been delayed because of the train drivers strike. Get over it. Let this make you realise how important these drivers are to you every day.
Im not a train driver, I dont know any train drivers and I dont use the trains but they have my 110% support.
I hope they get what they want.
Rant over

Just like taxi driver, but:

don't have to steer - just brake an accelerate
don't have to talk to passengers
no puke to clean up on the weekend night shifts
and you don't have to be Muslim or Hindu.....

No Im not a mate of Kevin Reynolds. Never have been. He is in the CFMEU. Im in the CEPU. Two different unions. Just like the train drivers have their union and our police have their union etc etc.
Times change. The cost of living goes up. Are you still charging the same for your services today Gazza as you were a few years ago? 10 years ago Im sure you could have payed someone $10 an hour to labour for you? How about today?
Remember when our police had an issue and to make a point they werent giving out speeding fines? I dont remember hearing anyone whinge about that?

It seems to be the flavour of the month with industrial disputes to have a sick day, but what will end up happening will be the rules for sick leave will end up changing which will **** it up for everyone.

The irony is all the righteously indignant will be yelling jumping up and down complaining about loss of rights will conveniently forget the reason which triggered the changes in the industrial act which will require a Dr's slip each and every sick day.

A mate of mine is a local train driver and he said its the best job he has ever had. He used to see me getting on his line when I was going to work and thought it was funny to send the security gards down to kick me off usually one station before mine the bastard he only did it a couple of times thought he was been funny!!

Dunno why they would strike, they get great pay and the hours are flexible.

Fine for the workers but not for "the workers".

Have you ever noticed how anyone who refers to themselves as "the workers" is usually so busy referring to themselves as "the workers" that they're not actually doing any work...?

Lots of people don't get thank yous. Nurses don't. Policemen don't. The army don't.

Lots of people change jobs when they want more money. It's tough, it involves a change but they go through the change because it's their best option.

Is it a good reason to stop work because you think that you deserve money? If you deserve more money get another job. But wait, it's the 1930s and there aren't any jobs in Perth and all the miners are on the poverty line... hang on..

Nope, if you don't earn enough money for accelerating and decelerating a train (with your eyes open - that's the safety part of the role) then get a job in a mine, earn four times the dollars... then the train company actually will wake up and pay you more..

But that's too tough and you worry that it might be hard work and you worry that you might be the only person who does resign, so you get all your mates together and although each of you is totally insignificant together you can **** everyone's day up in such a way that politicians take note. In the same way that termites are individually insignificant and not that different.

I can only charge what people are prepared to pay.
If im to expensive i dont work simple as that.

My pay from the builders hasn't changed in at least 5years im about to start of negotiations with them now.

The thing is i will still work when this is going on as i have a obligation to myself and my workers.
I pay my workers a fair wage if i didn't people wouldn't work for me.It as simple as that

what im getting at is nobody is forced to work anywhere if my builders wont change i can always look for another who does pay more or i can stay put. Its my choice.

Same as anybody if you feel your getting ripped off you can always look another job then leave your employer in the **** when you find one.
Thats what hurts employers the most

Im not anti union at all in certain industry and profession's you need them and the do a great job.

But to cause disruption on a Friday to so many hard workers who probably would also like a pay rise is pretty weak and wont gain much support.
As i say do it on a monday.

Nobody whinged about the police as they didnt cause a disruption to anyone

The main problem with a lot of workers is they sometimes think they are worth more than they are and dont realise how good they have.

If my 2 works want a $50 aweek rise thats an extra $5200 per year it has to come from somewhere.

So that means they either work harder or longer hours something they dont want to do or i charge more for my service something the customers wont pay so where does that leave me i take another pay cut even though my wages havent change much in years yet theres have.

Greenie i know when your not happy with your pay you change to another employer.

Why can't theses guy do the same or maybe sitting on there arse all driving a train really isn't a bad number after all

$30 an hour sounds pretty good to sit on your ass and press few buttons for a few hours...

**** I have a degree and have a more demanding job and I dont get that much...

I agree with Gazza....you take a job you take the pay...want more pay get another job...

I wonder how many people missed a few hours of work, and hence pay that morning?? I wonder if they could be sued for causing loss of earnings?

Not a particularly clever comment.

pooman is no more insignificant than a train driver

if he stopped his, it wouldn't stop anyone.

if you stopped yours, it wouldn't effect anyone.

if one train driver stopped theirs, it wouldn't effect anyone..

getting together to **** people over is what matters... and justifying your co-ordinated action with "no one says thank you", "my house isn't big enough", "my job is really difficult

It seems that a train driver stoppimg his job at any time would affect more people than you me and The Pman

A degree does not make you deserve more cash.

I have one as well, and I dont think that I am special.

nope, I'll make the point again.

A (A meaning single, one, unity, 1, less than 2 and more than zero) train driver stopping his job has no effect. The guys that run the rosta use one of the stand in drivers that they have on call and the train still runs....

I never said anything about degrees and I never said that you didn't have one. This has nothing to do with qualifications, just how difficult a job is and how many people can do it and therefore how much the market deems that the job should receive in pay.

It gets difficult when everyone decides to stop and that is what my point was about. If everyone decides to stop, they're deciding that their profession (and only their profession) needs more cash on the basis that they think they deserve it...

Incidentally, train drivers don't go out of their way to eat at restaurants, drink at pubs, holiday in countries based on whether those people get fair pay - which technically they should if they believe that pay should be based on "fairness" rather than market rates. They should also go out of their way to buy fair trade products and they should never buy anything made in China if they believe that Chinese workers aren't paid enough....
