Often the news is bad news. Sad to hear about the passing of Peter Roebuck.

Somehow, it feels like the whole story has come out yet... found dead in his hotel room... police had spoken to him earlier in the day (?)... doesn't quite seem like the death was an unexpected heart attack, for example. It hasn't been reported as a heart attack... but that is one plausible cause of death for a 55 year old male...

Sad none the less.

55 is just too young to go.

RIP. I loved his writing style - very punchy at times. His commentary on the ABC was always insightful. He will be missed

Seems that there will be more to this story given the latest reports. Sad.

News articles aren't saying much yet...

"He appeared agitated"... could be as simple as a series of minor strokes, culminating in a large stroke... hopefully nothing sinister... or nothing related to cricket betting...

It just seems there is more news to come...

(pure speculation by me...)...

I heard suicide shortly after police spoke with him.

Even though the circumstances leading to his suicide were not clear, it has been reported that he was spoken to by local police on his return to the Southern Sun Hotel Newlands on Saturday night after having his dinner outside.

The hotel, on its part, had also issued a statement, saying, "An incident that occurred at Southern Sun Newlands was currently under full police investigation.

Really strange SMH is going with something else, yet have suicide prevention contacts at the bottom of the page:

Roebuck was fearless in the face of the establishment. I don't know about the rest of his life but I enjoyed his writing and commentary.

yeah, sexual assult charges.

also in 1999 got charged with assault for caning three adult male cricketers on their bare buttocks for indiscretions whilst living in his house - which is weird

Geez it looks very bad but just hold off until some real facts come out not just 'read it on the internerd so must be facts'.

NoBS may be on the money but don't forget there was only one other dude in the room with Roebuck when he 'fell/jumped' or whatever resulted in the mess below.

Think for a moment if the Yarpy seargent had summed up his view of the situation as quick as you did NoBS. If the bloke had a bleak history of his own.. well maybe it was a jump.. maybe not?

You may well have calculated correctly but just sayin don't go summing it up just yet.

If you are concerned about his wife n kids then maybe hold off on the sh!t slinging until it actually IS fact.

Wow, looks like you already made some comments in your earlier posts (which I deleted as they were a) defamatory and b) not based on any facts whatsoever

Unless you were one of the people preyed upon by the guy you have not right to make those claims

Whatever Galah.

Obviously you have some association with the guy. Probably enjoyed his commentary as your in the same age bracket. No probs.

As for facts.. Read the articles from the SA press and police. Yeah they all must be wrong. He didn't do a superman for no reason...

Isn't it amazing that we can read any sh1t about someone on the internet and it instantly becomes fact.

Lucky for some the admin deletes posts pretty quickly. Libel and slander are still illegal and if they want to the victims can sue even if you hide behind an anonymous username..

Mate, Its not illegal for 2 men to have sex. The question is did a rape occur. that's why we have courts.

There's a few articles coming out now...

Assuming guilt, and given the past history, I would have thought he would have been facing 10-15 years in a South African prison... ??? (Note - law is not a strong point of mine, I'm just saying... and guessing...)

Because sometimes the truth needs to come out to dissuade sick phuks like this from taking advantage of the underprivileged placed in their care. I couldn't give a rats as to his sexuality, it's the rape and psychological abuse that bothers me.

The truth has been coming out .... and who are you going to blame? How will you punish the person responsible? How much is it going to cost?

The suspect is dead, and is unable to defend himself. His name has been denigrated, what else do you want?

What do I want Adolph?

Better vetting of twisted units like this before they have vulnerable children placed in their care.

I guarantee you that someone in the world of cricket knew what Peter Roebuck was up to but didn't want to rock the boat.

How'd you feel if it was one of your kids that he had raped?

I don't reckon he was a peddy, probably more of a wally woofta who liked a bit of discipline.
