How come its cheaper on Wednesdays?

I normally fill up on that day because its cheaper but have never really thought about why?

Anyone have an idea??

It used to be cheap Tuesday in NSW but that seems to have gone now. Fuel is now expensive everyday. Its probably a marketing tool to get people buying fuel on would otherwise be a slow day, like the day before payday for public servants and Centrelink clients.

Even on the "cheap" days fuel is not cheap. On these days the fuel companies are still making a good profit margin. The other days are the cream on the cake. We are being manipulated by the marketing moguls.

Most of the time it is put up on Thurs as that is payday for all Govt employees and Centrelink. Then Fri stays up as people tend to fill up then to go away on weekend etc.
It is very deliberate analysis of when they sell most fuel and then making those couple of days 10c/L more expensive.

Agreed, Saturday is generally a bit cheaper but Wednesdays is the best. Paid $1.51 for 98 ron this morning and I bet 92 ron will be around $1.49 tomorrow morning

Prices are spiralling out of control Reserve Bank raises interest rates businesses raise prices to maintain margins Reserve Bank raises rates again, economic RSI how much can we all take before meltdown occurs. A two speed economy ,here is an idea let West Aust succede from the rest of Australia then they can get on with higher rates whilst we on the eastern seaboard can have lower rates to match our economy ?

There are some insulting radio adverts running at the moment by the Australian Business Alliance group( tobacco industry) suggesting that because of plain packaging that will be brought into legislation will cause 14 year olds to smoke illegally grown tobacco and that it will be dangerous for them,so smoking tobacco from colourfull package is ok, since when has the Tobacco Industry developed a social conscience,?

i like people that will drive a few extra kms just to save a couple of cents say its saveing 10c in 60l tanks thats 6bucks .. but how manu ppl buy a 20dollar pack of smokes a day and a few beers at the pub arter work at 4 bucks each.. y does every one complain about fuel?

I work for a major oil company and I had the weekly retail price cycle explained to me a few months back by one of the big guys (it didnt make much sense).

Basically, starting from the upper point of the cycle each fuel company will drop their prices a little each day to try and be cheaper than each other (remember that you can only change prices once per day - this is a factor). These daily price drops go on until the fuel stations are selling the fuel for about 2c/l more than they can buy it for. This is apparently the break even point for the servos. This was the confusing bit - each company then hikes the price up by 10-12c, kind of safe in the knowledge that all the other companies will also do the same. Apparently if you get this wrong and do it a day early then you get raped by the market. After this, the prices slowly drop again and the cycle repeats.

I was told that this cycle (it has a name but i cant remember) is apparently a sign that the market is very competitive - but i think it is just profiteering.

I think places like 7/11 fuel servos don't really follow this cycle - thats where you should fuel up if you want to help break the cycle.

There is no tax on LPG yet other than GST which is 10% not half.

Matty I know LPG and LNG are different however they come the same hole in the ground by similar processes

LNG is sold by the super-tanker to an import terminal in china, which is probably closer to the NWS than most australian cities. LPG has often travelled by pipe to a seperate extraction facility (which removes the LPG from the LNG), it is then stenched, stored at terminals, trucked to individual servos and put into cars. A much more complex process - a lot of that price is all the extra logistics that LPG has gone through as opposed to a super-tanker of LNG.

Going back to supply and demand, there is also a whole heap more LNG than LPG from a hole in the ground. I'm half making this number up, but LNG from the NWS probably contains only about 1% LPG.
