A man who died after being pulled unconscious from the surf at a beach on the NSW-Queensland border has been identified by police as Glenn O'Hare, 37.
A passer-by found Mr O'Hare floating face down next to his surfboard at Bilinga Beach on Sunday afternoon.
Beachgoers performed CPR before helped arrived.
Mr O'Hare was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital in a critical condition but later died, a Queensland Department of Community Safety spokeswoman said.
A cause of death was yet to be determined.
NSW Police said on Tuesday a post-mortem examination would be completed by the end of the week.
