I can't be bothered sifting through Google...

Do any of you guys and girls know what the Break-Even Point is, for DeskJet v's Laser Jet.
Capital Cost + Ink... Pages printed, power use?...

My wife is studying (on line learning) - she's early 40's and can't (refuses) to read text on the screen, and INSISTS on PRINTING EVERYTHING (yes it is driving me insane!!). In her words, "she can't digest it unless she read it on paper"... go figure...

Ink Cartridges - 1 x Black plus 1 x Colour, cost $23 each. We are spending about $46 every 2 weeks...

you can get cannon aftermarket ink cartriges.
Best thing is to buy a printer the same as a work one and tax ink from work
I agree, reading from the screen sucks balls sometimes

Wouldn't it be better to buy a Kindle or a similar E Ink reader? Reads same as paper.

If you're going thru that much get a laser, worth it. LED is the new laser, much better, less to break, but still pricey I think.

You can get Brother laser printers for around $100 I think. I bought one, just for A4 B&W and so far so good. I got it from Office works. I am not sure of the exact price, but surely these have to be cheaper than inkjet.

Edit: I found the one I bought, and it is $129. I made sure I bought one with network capability (wireless and ethernet), as its a must for me. They say they have a 'starter cartridge' and do 500 pages. So, for $129 at 500 pages, try and work it out. Hopefully a replacement drum then becomes cheaper again, otherwise you buy another printer.

I am sure it also has a duplexer, which is great if you need to print both sides, and if you need to print 'everything' then this will be well worth doing. You can also print multiple pages onto an A4 sheet, as long as your eyes can handle the font sizes.

There are also cheaper Laser printers on their site, and they show the number of expected pages. There's one that does 700 pages for $49.

Definitely get a laser printer. We have a Xerox Docuprint 203A. It's about six years old and is going strong. Remanufactured toner cartridges cost $25 off eBay. Do a bit of research and find a printer that does not lock you into buying expensive brand toner cartridges.

Laser. We've been using a Samsung one for 5 years still on the same toner cartridges.

Laser printers display a warning message to replace the toner cartridges. The warning usually comes on at about 40% full. You can pull the cartridges out and shake them and keep using them.

Ink jet cartridges dry out and you have to throw them away.

Definite laser.
Better yet: the very best return per page on volumes is on those big professional printers at work.
In the same situation as yours (she refused too), I used to print at work (client) large docs,
and give'em an hour's or two worth of extra.
A win-win out of stealing...
