Talking to a mate last night and he was looking at getting a new 4WD (lots of lattes to carry on the school run)

Anyway, car is marketed with "big outdoors surfing, kayaking etc". Yet it is sold with a proximity key.

He thinks (and I'm not sure) that this means that you can't lock it without the key being at least 10 metres away... so you can't leave the key in a key lock attached to the car ... and you can't go surfing with the key because it can't get wet...

any ideas?

Tell him to get over his outlaw cowboy phase and get a hatch back or wagon that suits the reality of his urban existance?

One of these will do the job.

My mate uses one.
Made solid as a rock.
Just stick you key in it then lock it on or under your car somewhere.

I think you misread (or didn't read) the original post.

I guess you could lock your key onto someone else's car >10m away and hope they have more stamina than you and are still there when you come in.

Yeah I read it.Thats why I aswered it.
Was helping out with the last bit of not being able to surf with it and ment
cant you walk 10m away from the car, press the button,,BLEEP BLEEP,
then walk back to the car and use the surf lock?????

Sorry I didnt make that bit a bit clearer for you.

or is there NO button to go BLEEP BLEEP, and it automatically locks if you are 10m away????

Ps you dont have to lock the surf lock to your car.
I have seen them locked on fences, chains around poles or trees ect

I've got a friend with one of those and there is a dead spot at the front of the car so he is able lock his key there without trouble. I can't remember the exact model but it's a brand new 4wd toyota.

Nah,,the dead spot your talking about is that if that spot hits you at 100kms/hr,,,,,,,,,ya dead

I painted a black spot on the bumper of my old car where I hit a cat once.I called it the deadspot.[}:)]

Why not just chain your hungry Doberman or Rottweiller to your car and park your keys on the inner underside of your bumper??

It is called the K.I.S.S. principle. If you don't know what that is, you are beyond redemption.

Or the old joke that my little Jack Russell killed a German Shepard! It got caught in its throat. Actually nearly occured the other day. I have a little long haired Jack Russell and my neighbour a pair of large German Shepards. All lovely dogs with good temperament but one of the German Shepards is an escapeologist and keeps coming around to our place to visit our pooch. I arrived home the other day to find the GS with its head stuck in the dog flap in the back door having tried to follow our little dog inside. The flap acted as a non return valve preventing withdrawal. Would have eventually choked.
We bought our property from an elderly couple that had a huge but old and lazy doberman. They had a number of beware of the dog signs at the gate, I have left them there and am quite impressed by the number of unsolicited visitors who are turned away by the sign. Just put a beware of the dog sign up in the car window.
I just use the plain old key in my old 4wd. and I have a spare taped up under the suspension in case I ever lose/lock my keys in the car.
