As per the reports via Shark Alarm today Perth metro area.

1)Tagged GWS detected at Scarborough receiver between 6:25 and 6:43am.

2)Great White detected at Floreat receiver between 7:40 and 7:55am. Also detected between 8 and 8:04am.

3)Tagged GWS detected at 10:27am, 10:31am and 10:37am.

4)Fisheries advise a 2.5m shark was sighted approx 50m off North Beach jetty heading North.

5)Fisheries advise a 3m GWS has been spotted 100m offshore at the Cambridge and Stirling boundary line - heading north.

6)Fisheries advise a large fin was sighted 50 metres off shore at Rockingham Beach, heading south.

7)Tagged white shark detected at Scarborough receiver at 3.54 PM on 10 Oct 2012. Scarborough and Brighton beaches closed again.

8)Tagged white shark detected at Scarborough receiver at 4.17pm.

9)Brodie states, "Just got back from a swim in between scabs and Trigg south. Defiantly saw a Great Whites fin about 25 meters from where I was swimming. The fin was out of the water by at least 1metere....I alerted the nearest lifeguard and they sounded the alarm."

Does anyone know how many sharks have been tagged?

Is this publicly available information? Does anyone know of anyone who's been involved with tagging GWs?

The reason for my post is that I heard Fisheries spent 2 months down south recently and didn't manage to tag one GW. (Obviously bad fisherman)

So let's say, Fisheries in all of history have managed to tag less than 1% of all GWs off our coast... It makes me wonder how many we don't see….

There must be 1000's off our coast.

I have been asking everyone for about a month. The best I got was the SA government has tagged over 100 but the WA government on 12 in the last 4 years. Today's effort was more likely the same shark swimming in the area over and over.
Personally I find the effort for money spent the biggest waiste none to man. [}:)]

Perth is bull**** the shark "pings" should be made public as soon as there updated. The south africans have the right idea. Cost the government less just to kill them i suppose.

So why isn't there some one out there trying to catch it before it eats another swimmer / surfer?
Do they plan on hopping out there and doing something one minute before it bites??
It's not out there sight seeing.
It's out there looking for an easy meal.
It will probably stay there until it gets one.
If we're lucky, it might be a seal.
If we're unlucky, it will be a person.

And yes I know it's an "apex predator".
But then so is Allan Jones and most people seem to be happy to give him the flick.

Sounds like a bit of an exaggeration to me, or an Orca.

I originally thought the Shark Alarm site was a good idea but I am a bit over it ATM, I think I would rather not know.
I worked nightshift last night and slept most of the day, I woke up thinking I would go for an arvo surf so went online to check graphs cams etc, also checked my FB and every second post was about a shark sighting.

I still went for a late arvo surf, only two of us out and the wind dropped right off so I stayed out till after sunset.
Although the surf was small it was magic conditions but it was very hard to relax and enoy it when you keep thinking about sharks.

Went for a surf check this arvo and decided to give it a miss after seeing this badly chomped whale a few k's up the coast.
There was an oil slick visible a long way offshore.

I have no idea how big a shark fins can get, but...I'd hesitate to reject it straight away.

There is a surf movie and the pro tour is at J-Bay and a shark is spotted. Taj Burrow comes out of the water and says (something like) "Jesus christ that fin was the size of my fkn board"
