Bahhh ha ha,,, only vico's and desert people would call AFL a sport. Even when you miss the goals they have a second set just so they can still feel "special" for missing " Oh you missed by 5 meters, oh well, here have some points just for having a go".. Bhaaaa ha ha Even NZ wouldnt touch on that.
Tried to watch the game...but couldn't bring my already very average intelligence low enough to understand it.
Either way - the result is a bit of an anti-climax as all the commercials last week built it up as some sort of competition (lightning bolts, thunder & no-neckers flexing muscles with explosive special effects etc.)
The game's only played in NSW and QLD...and by the 'left-overs' in NZ....and in a couple of provinces Europe....
It's kept going here on TV by 9 and the last ten pages of the 'daily fish wrapping' ..look at the crowd figures for the local matches and for the feeder clubs and local park football....then figure out how they can justify the huge payments a few players get....
It's all the media hype that holds it up....there are too many teams at the "elite level" and not enough skilled players to go around and no long term plan to develop the game at the grass roots....state of origin is hyped up into a circus but at the junior level it's looking pretty grim....

Agree with Mark there, we didnt grow up with any sort of the game here, yet we are expected to be interested in origin for some unknown reason. Its between NSW & QLD, Im not sorry I dont give a flying feck about it.
It's interesting to note how the rules of a sport dictate the body type of the participants. At one end of the spectrum we have marathon running, at the other end rugby league, every other sport is somewhere in between. I think the rules of rugby league could do with a little tweaking.
