G`Day Maverick040,

Never let anyone tell you that money is a problem,It`s the lack of it that`s the problem.

I am interested. But they seem to crash a little too often for my liking.
I don't get the kitesurfing joke? I'm serious, I've tried reading it over and over, but nothing explains the green thumbs up?

I assumed a reference to them being dragged up into the sky with monotonous (yet humourous) regularity? Therefore resembling an ultralite?

Or the fact that there is an analogy: some people really wanna be a fighter plane (windsurfer) when in fact they settle for an out of balance ultralite with engine misfires and shonky altitude control (kiting)

The local (WA) organisation which is into all that sort of stuff is the Sports Aircraft Builders Club operating out of Serpentine Airfield, about 20km south of Jandakot airfield.
The airfield is a private one run by the club but they have an annual open day, usually on the long weekend in early March where everyone is welcome to come along and see the many home built aircraft and flying displays.
Well worth a look if you're into that sort of thing.

They have a website,.. www.sabc.org.au/

The guy I got to weld my landyacht together for me builds gyrocopters and is now building his first ultralight bi-plane. They look great but there's no way you catch me in one (Mind you he said exactly the same thing about my landyacht )
