Registration is now open to windsurfers, kitesurfers and paddlers for the 2016 Lancelin Ocean Classic! Register to Race online now at secure.onreg.com/onreg2/front/step1.php?id=2879

The upcoming classic will include the 25km marathon race from Ledge Point to Lancelin, as well as the waves competitions and a freestyle competition for kitesurfers.

On Sunday 17 January, #LancelinClassic will also be serving up the 'Lancelin Lobster Breakfast' of local crayfish and drinks. Limited tickets available now through Lancelin Ocean Classic Facebook page before they are all gone!

FYI. It seems there is an issue with the form validation when selecting 'Do you already have a sail number' = 'Yes'. Selecting no works just fine though.

Edit: You can add sail number after registering by following the link to the blue chip application (you'll be emailed a link) and updating your details.

I selected "Yes" for Sail No. and also selected the "Back" button to go back a page to enter update Emergency Contact details. It took us back to the first entry details page with all the original inputted data gone. Started process again and selected "No" for sail No. and did not hit back button during process, used the email link you receive after payment confirmed to login and edit Sail No, could not find login tab on site page.

correct , i did state competent kiters AND competent windsurfers can co-exist . My concerns are with ledge like mark said is beach real estate . Guess we will wait and see what the plans are for rigging areas . That is where the issue is going to be .

I'd be dead keen to race the kiters back from Rottnest! (again )

How they going to fit everybody in down on that small area for combined start
There is hardly enough vehicle room and rigging room as it is just for windsurfers, let alone get one and all on the start line.
This sounds rather strange, as you get a windy day and kites all over the shop at start line, then add windsurfers starting, hitting a hole falling in then kiters trying to get off the mark and needing to avoid or vise versa, kites crashing with a bunch of race crazed windsurfers right on your hammer, tangling in that lot.
Not a well thought out strategy one would think.
Then again, its the local tourist dollars they are chasing, so no holds bared when that's one of the criteria

It will be even more fun at the finish.
Looking forward to the kiters trying to run under the finish banner with a kite in the air,
or passing their bar to the volunteers on the shore and watching them get boosted down the beach.

Our team working on the race coordination have been developing a plan over the past few months, working closely with safety and sporting partners to ensure the race start is an exciting start for one of Australia's best known water events.

In 2016, both kites and sail boards will race against each other for the first time. To ensure the efficient and safe conduct of the race, there will be 2 independent start lines –separated by approximately 140m at Ledge Point. The Windsurfers will remain in the same location as previous years with a beach start, the Kite surfers start line is north of the rock wall and slightly further off shore. Both competitive fields will go off at the same time.

We intend to install an inside turn buoy at Marker 1 for kite participants only. This buoy will be placed approximately 150m ENE of the 1st marker boat. Once kiters have made that turn, they'll head for the second marker shared by all competitors. The kiters will also cross a finish line on the water.

So a junior can't compete in the open if he wants to step it up with the men?

Sounds like a plan that will work, keep the poleys and kites separate for a leg, by then they will have spread out. It will be interesting and a spectacle for sure. I might have to try and get on the boat at the first marker this year.

I got over my negative feelings and entered anyway (alcohol fuelled rush of blood) Just have to get into some training and fitness work now. Hoping I Can actually get my equipment choice right for 2016.
