Loved this show and the book as a kid.

All episodes are here:

(I can't vouch for the rest of that site)

Oh yeah - I remember the show on the four dimensional hypercube (tesseract) the most. They have fascinated me ever since.

Did they do something on Schrodingers Cat too?

I haven't looked at my lottery ticket from last night's draw. Is it both a winning ticket and a non winning ticket at the same time, like the cat?

Isn't time the 4th dimension. That would imply that a "tesseract" is just a cube in a movie - not so fascinating.

You're both right and wrong.

in our universe yes, but a tesseract is a 3 dimensional representation of a 4 dimensional object in another possible universe with more dimensions. Just like you can draw a cube on a piece of paper, but it is still just a 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional object.

It is the logical progression that facsinates me.

1) take an object with no dimensions (a point), duplicate it and join the extremeties, and you get an object in one dimension - a line

2) take that one dimensional object duplicate it and join the extremeties and you get an object in 2 dimensions - a square

3) take that 2 dimensional obect and duplicate it and join the extremeties and you get an object in 3 dimensions - a cube.

4) take a cube, duplicate it and join the extremities.....tesseract.

Only we don't have 4 physical dimensions, so all we see is the representation in 3d, similar to drawing a cube on paper.

Probably not - maybe if your numbers and the draw were somehow linked to the random decay of a subatomic particle in a closed system.

Interesting thought though - you could try claiming a win off the lottery office and back it up with Quantum physics - but it is only a winning ticket while no one looks at it. .

A cube with a hole in it.

ha!, yep - a cube with a hole in it in a movie... kinda defeats the thought process it is supposed to inspire though

Well at least the forecast for the weekend looks good ....

For those who care to own a Copy of Sagan's Cosmos, the entire set is available on DVD from ABC shops at $149 a bargain I would suggest.
