Safety Bay Classic
11-12th December 2004

** Look! New format for the SB Classic Weekend **

Proceeds from the entry fees goes back to all of those who sail the event! With every entry you get a buffet dinner for 2 at the Waikiki Hotel, opposite the marathon finish line on the night of the 11th of December, after the race. For your entertainment, a band will be playing 70s-80s music for 9pm-1am.

The events are as follows:

Marathon:Saturday 11th December (Sunday reserve day)
Boat start will be used in preference to the usual beach start line. The entire length of the course is approximately 34kms. All markers on the outside of the course will be in the lee of the islands, providing flat water for easier gybing. The several inside markers will be set close to the beach to aid novice sailors and those that want to stop for a rest. Please return your entry as early possible for catering reasons.

Marathon Dinner:Saturday 11th December 7pm-1am
Complimentary buffet dinner and entertainment for two for every marathon entry. After dinner, a band will be playing 70s-80s music from 9pm till 1am.

Giant Slalom:Sunday 12th December
This event will be a series of giant slalom races within Warnbro Sound. Boat starts will also be used for the giant slalom.

Freestyle Expression Session: 12th-11th December
Freestyle sessions will be held in Warnbro Sound, in front of the Waikiki Hotel. The organisation of these sessions will be subject to the number of participants over the weekend.

Important Notes:

One entry fee covers entry into all events and the dinner.
Marathon nominations, starting and scrutineering will occur at long point this year.
Cost of entry for Open, Womens, Masters and G/Masters classes is $45, Youth class is $30.
A buoyancy vest and a flare will be required for entrance into the marathon event.
All competitors must be a financial member of SBWC

Proof of membership to the above must be sighted!
Any competitor who wishes to enter the events and is not a member of a recognised club or fails to provide proof of membership may still enter, but will incur an additional fee of $20 to cover insurance costs.
Ample free parking and facilities are available at the venue.

** Please Note: Dinner vouchers are only valid for the night of Saturday, 11th December. Alcohol is not included, a set buffet menu is provided only. Vouchers cannot be redeemed for cash.

Grumpy,

Nils has described the marathon course to me as being similar to previous years with the exception of a boat start and the setting of outside markers in lee of the islands (flat water) and the inside markers closer still to the beach (for those that wish to rest, but still carry on). He also intends to set the giant slalom as a run from the 'weed-bank' (boat start also) across the sound several times and then finishing on a downwind blast to the beach in front of the Waikiki Hotel.

Nils is still in Cervantes as far as I know, but when he returns I'll make a map available. Grumpy, it would be great if you could send that photo map to me to save me hunting around for one [email protected] cheers

The course this year will be very similar to that on Bob's page. Looks like we can expect some wind on Saturday, so hopefully everyone is geared up for a big one on the water and at the Waki hotel Remember that registration and scruitineering will take place at the long point car park, near to the start of the marathon.
