Hey folks, dunno about you but when I search the forums the max time limit of one year for a thread seems a bit too meagre and often doesn't turn up the thread - even if it was a FAQ or popular response etc. However, if I do a google search it often produces the thread that I was after and can find older threads than the SB search. Wassgoinon?

Can the search engine be refined/extended so that the old chestnut questions that reappear frequently can be better sought by the curious punters and not get the Noobs (ahem.. and allegedly wiser punters) caned for asking a FAQ?

Search the universe Loz (or at least google) and the answer awaits..

I imagine that the illuminated ones who keep the Seabreeze show running have discovered that doing massive text searches of the ENTIRE Seabreeze history is a bit of a killer on their server performance, and to stop people whinging that the site is too slow, they've compromised and limited searches to just the past year.

Google on the other hand are set up specifically for doing huge searches, so it's not a problem for their warehouses full of expensive server kit.

Perhaps there's a cunning solution involving leveraging Google's search functionality concealed in a Seabreeze skin?

It looks like Seabreeze, it smells like Seabreeze, but it's really Google!

Course, Lozz has provided the article feature to make sticky articles about stuff, so we could use that a bit more to address the common things... if only we could all agree!

Well I would guess it's because with all the new enviromental standards and anti polution measures the power of the search engine has been severely restricted.
Back in the days when engines could be any capacity and as loud and grubby as you like then you could have used a much beefier search engine, with twin exhausts and overhead dipsticks an all an all. But with all these new enviromental standards then that's just no longer possible.

I'm not really up on all this stuff but I'm sure that must be why.
Isn't it Laurie?

It's because what happens on tour, stays on tour.

The search needs some lovin, and there is a great (fast) alternative I've been meaning to add, which takes advantage of the google "extras"

Do a search on search, and you'll find this topic:

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=52671

..which says..

To make google only return results from seabreeze, enter the following in the google search field:

site:seabreeze.com.au inurl:forums

then add any terms you want to search for. eg:

site:seabreeze.com.au inurl:forums how to jump

here is an example:

www.google.com.au/search?&q=site:seabreeze.com.au+inurl:forums+why+do+kitesurfers+wear+boardshorts+over+their+wetsuits

Go to the help menu and hit search, then use the search seabreeze option.
Easy.

Ha ha - turns out I am the twit! No great revelations there.. I thought boogiefinger was meaning to help-search etc Seabreeze not googleyland..

All good in the end, I just found it odd that more threads can be found and are available externally rather than internally. Personally I prefer to keep searches external rather than internal
