The group asked for assitance from a Fishing Charter boat that refused to physically help. All they did was radio Heron Island. Seems the fishing was more important.

The attack happened off Lamont reef, not Heron.

It was probably the best option for the victim to go to Heron via their own fast boat...I haven't heard the name of the other boat.....if it's bigger and out there, it's a good chance it wouldn't have been faster!Heron was a good choice, they have a nurse and access to a bunch of Helis..

Even the victim knows the risk he took - Spear fisherman are generally asking for it.

Reefs like Lamont and Sykes are bombarded with "local" and charter spear fisherman - the sharks there know the sound of a spear gun going off.... not the best place to be!
