This looks like a potentially brilliant option for all those no wind days..fingers crossed it goes ahead!

would be interesting if it's feasible to have one of those twin side surf pools, the heat from the aircon that keeps the temp right in the snow to be used to keep the surf section warm and how often would they use the pumps just for the snow section to pump water around? Ok given it is probably a smaller pump than used for these surf pools but I am sure some smart bastard could work out the dynamics to multi task so that it could be directed to use on the surf pool as well, that would be an awesome setup let alone even more popular in winter for the surf summer mob!

check out this site - http://www.surfparks.com/

Anyone here got a spare hundred million laying around?

Nothing done yet, but interest is huge.

Recon that pushing to have some blowers added makes sense for those who can't ski or snowboard.

Heya Fred! They sell the freebords at SOS in Fremantle. I went to take a look last year, and would have bought one if they were under $300, but I think they were just over $400. May be cheaper direct to manufacturer... www.storefront-hosting.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=10
They look like great fun!!!!!!!

Seems to be on track for 2010 according to newsletter.

Quote from newsletter:

"The extremely meagre natural snowfalls meant that most resorts were only partially operating - and what was open was largely due to the efforts of the snowmaking equipment. At Falls Creek, for example, the entire Summit side of the resort was inoperable for the season.

But it seems that the poor conditions didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the thousands of skiers and boarders who made the trek from WA to the snowfields of NSW and Victoria - proving once again that people will travel long distances for their snowsports even if it is to ski and board on artificial snow!"

I don't know what's worse for the enviornment....making snow on little hills in VIC and NSW, or putting it in a well insulated, closed system? Just think of all the fuel spent travelling to find the snow.........bring on the Snowpark.

I've been boarding indoor before up in Scotland last year. The run was 150m and took about 20 secs to get to the bottom. If it does go ahead I hope it's reasonably long. The one in Dubai is 400m.

About to go to Innsbruck Austria on the 26th for 9 days does anyone have any good places to see/go there as there is verry little snow there at the moment and might need to do some touristy things instead of drinking myself to oblivion all day every day

Well there is snow, just not so good on the lower altitude resorts. Some of the higher alt. ones have plenty of snow.

The snow will come! I'm heading over there in about a month and I'm a believer .

As long as it's cold enough they will make artificial snow and it should be OK.

Some resorts have glacier skiing (www.dachstein.at/).
Also check out www.skiamade.com.

Austria is fairly small country and there is good road system going right through it (A1). It's only few hours to Salzburg, Vienna etc. Plenty of things to see there. Also only few hours to Prague, Bratislava, Budapest, Germany or over the South Tyrol Alps to Dolomites (Italy). The Dolomites are great even without the snow - see www.dolomiti.it/index.php?language=eng and www.dolomitisuperski.com.

Cheers

Jakub
