It's the "Peng Yu" effect.

http://www.globaltimes.cn/NEWS/tabid/99/ID/661115/Heartless-bystanders-not-solely-Chinese-problem.aspx

www.chinadaily.com.cn/opinion/2011-08/26/content_13199786.htm

There was an incident in the US where somebody got hit crossing the road, someone stopped to help, they got hit too and then somebody stopped to rob them. Something like that anyway. Just last year, can't find source.

I'm with Rod on this one - won't watch it basically on principal. I thought I had lost my toddler a few weeks ago for a few seconds due to a temperature spike ('febrile convulsion' - seizure & collapse, and not breathing), so don't need to watch something that does mentally & physically affect you when you have small kids.

Besides, I see it for real on occasion (SES member) and try to limit the amount of exposure I have to 'real trauma'. Although I acknowledge it happens & can understand the circulation and posting of it on the net, I don't understand why graphic images/videos of trauma, especially involving children, is posted here.

In Flys defence... its been reported on loads of news outlets in the last 2 days.
Watch for it on Sunrise and Today Tonight next week
Maybe looking more for a social comment than the spectacle of it?
(But then maybe Fly is just a sick b@st@rd )

Something is fundamentally flawed with the world when people will walk away from a kid who is clearly in need of help.

I had to sit and watch my boy asleep for a while last night...

For those that did watch it, I thought I heard a response that it was dark, and that they couldn't really see the child. Is that believable?

I don't really want to watch it myself though.

Yes its dark... but you can see how she rag dolls and is moving. Also see a wet patch grow under her. She does move around after each hit and in between.

Very clearly in a bad way.

Quite possibly one of the most traumatic things I've seen in a very long time of being online... (even back in the early days of rotten.com which were usually still photos)

Possibly BC* it might not have carried the impact it did - its hard not to think of your own kid being in that situation - only just this year (or last year) a kid was backed over by a taxi in Mandurah during a late night pickup.

No... but I was present when a person I worked with took a goats head off with one.

Weirdly an adult who is involved with illegal stuff, killing another adult involved in illegal stuff doesnt bother me that much. Ditto with war atrocities. (Maybe just been desensitised through movies)

Im with you.

Take a look at the tv guide.

Primetime TV is mostly cop shows about murder and grisly crimes.

It is because they rate the highest, Proving generally that is what the majority find entertaining

There is a difference between news and taking pleasure in watching stuff like this.

Examine your motivation for posting, (seeing as there was no accompanying comment)

Watching this stuff desensitizes you from the next horror you watch. Pretty soon you can end up watching depraved stuff for a kick.

Whatever floats your boat.

I was just questioning your motivation for the post and what your thought processes were.

My motivations are political, I haven't even watched all of it. China is using our resources to become the "next" superpower.
With power comes responsibility, and the nation hasn't proven to have the morals I would like to see in a leader.

I find it deeply insulting that you would insinuate I take pleasure in watching a baby being run over and the locals ignoring her plight.

In future, would you like me to spell things out for you?

You never qualified your post with a comment.

You never made a political comment. None of us are psychic.

In the future it may pay to post a warning and a reason for your post.

Not everyone on this site is an adult and can control the urge to press play.

I don't know you and I don't judge.I do wonder what motivates people to share this stuff on seabreeze. It dismays me that this stuff is available for anyone to watch.

Leave the guy alone.
His intentions weren't bad, it was clearly to show what a mixed up situation the world is actually in, and that these atrocities do happen.
That much is quite obvious, even for a semi intelligent person.
As for posting a warning.
The You tube title says it all one would think?
What part of, "2-year old female child ran over by car twice", don't you understand?

Baba, I watched that on the news yesterday & couldn't believe it either! The reporter said a "300lb Bengal tiger was shot with a tranq dart, but before the dart could take effect, it rushed the officers"...so they slaughtered every animal!?!

Very sad, you'd think they could work out a better way to contain them.

Good post Flysurfer... I think it helps if people become aware of our trading partners society and how life works there.... life is cheap there.... just ask Apple who had loads of workers committing suicide in the ipod plants..... then look at the slaughter of animals to make fur on youtube....

There has been a big problem with hit and runs over there, some people even backing up over the person to finish the job because it would be too costly not too....

http://topics.scmp.com/news/china-news-watch/article/Perverse-logic-of-drivers-in-hit-and-runs

To be fair their society is catching up and evolving, but you don't know you're doing something wrong sometimes until someone else explains another "reasoning" on what you are doing...

That REALLY upset me too... I don't know how some people can live with themselves.
I value unique things and any endangered species is unique with extremely high value.
Hell I value all life, I don't use fly spray, cos it looks like the flies suffer. I don't kill the Redbacks that have taken one of my plant pots.

We can make more Bugatti Veyron's, we can't make a Tiger.

But even in the wild west, I don't think 95% of people would ignore an injured baby lying in the street... that and the way they treat animals really needs to be highlighted.

Bear bile, Tiger penis, Rhino horn... do I need to go on?

abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2011/10/jack-hanna-on-zanesville-ohio-animals-we-would-have-had-carnage/

Ask a zoo, they are labelled as 'shot on site' if they escape. Apparently tranquillisers don't work so well on them.

RE: The Tigers again. I also noticed that anteaters are on the 'shoot to kill' list at zoos, if they escape, along with orang-utans, giraffes, lions, jaguars etc. etc..

...anteaters.

But apparently they are hardcore.
http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/giant-anteater/

The giant anteater's claws are some four inches (ten centimeters) long, and the animal can fight off even a puma or jaguar.

There's no way in hell I could fight of a puma or jaguar. I don't think Mike Tyson could.

I think humans have always been like that, and always will. It's hard-wired and, as the article pointed out, mutually exclusive to our nice side.
