I have been using Dulux Duramax spray cans to paint my boards and hydrofoils after ding repair. It does a pretty decent job. It's cheap enough and the spray can lasts a fair while on the shelf.

I am trying to find out if there is a better option for marine/surfboard painting. Something more robust with good adhesion, resistant to UV and minor impacts. The various epoxy spray paints are all intended for metal surfaces and make no mention of spraying onto fibreglass and carbon epoxy surfaces.

I need to be able to sand the finish. That's the main requirement for painting the foils, to get rid of small scratches and chips. The paint is a sacrificial surface so I don't sand away the carbon and resin.

Spray cans would be ideal but it would be good to know about other options.

Look for auto body paint in spray cans.

No single pack can stuff is going to be durable as 2 pack.
The latter is poisonous so its a trade off.

If you want to just fill nicks and scratches, just use a can of hi build primer (spray putty) and sand back.

The single pack epoxy paints (I gather you are looking at killrust etc?) are a bit better than normal stuff when it comes to durability and do go fine over fibreglass (u should be priming anyway). I find the spray pattern on them is better, you can get a nice finish with them compared to cheapie cans.

If you want durable and single pack, for fins and foils, try POR-15 from the auto store. Its a matte black underbody thing for hotrods and very tough. Still not going to be like a 2k polyurethane though
