A couple of weeks ago I was out of sunscreen and picked up just whatever and used it. Didn't really notice that it also had insect repellent in it.

Long story short, it melted the rubber at the top of my wettie and I ended up with a very black neck. The lefties here will tell you that it almost covered up the red neck.... lol....... but I digress. It took half a bottle of metho and enough scrubbing to be fkn painful to remove all the black.
If I wear the wettie now it still makes my neck black and the rubber is all tacky so it is not a one time thing, it is buggered for good.

No need to mention what company I guess, as really it is my fault for not reading labels but the sunscreen company are apologetic.

The wettie manufacturer will fix it even though not really their fault so TOP MARKS to Ripcurl. That is really good of them.

So warning to all - normal sunscreen only!!

Stop using sun scream for a while.
There is a chance that you will have nice sunburn and rubber soiled skin peel away

Yes that will work..... but I'd rather not have to wear a rashie to stop getting black muck on me! Just thought I'd warn everyone that DEET and all that stuff can bugger your wettie.

Garden variety stuff is safest.

Get someone to piss on your face that'll sort it

Sounds like Bushmans? maybe a bit late to say there is a warning on the label not to get it anywhere near plastics?

As you massage those health giving chemicals into your skin while washing down a can of Aspertame soft drink [containing feces from GMO bacteria],remember it's all been approved by the FDA so no need for concern.

I remember the time that everybody looks suspicious on me first day when wearing full wet suit on GC. "You must be new here" and I was- straight from Melbourne cold waters

You'd sometimes see kids at the beach, over summer, that must have got a wetsuit for christmas or whatever and were wearing full length in 30 degrees. I wondered how they didn't die. No really, like you could actually die like that.

I haven't read your 'other suggestions' but in all seriousness what do you recommend to prevent sunburn? I agree with your comment re: Aspartame as yes, that stuff is no good in excessive amounts (RDI is a contentious issue) however what do you recommend to prevent 1st or 2nd degree burns from sun exposure/sunburn without resorting to wearing a Lycra Burka?
