Hi guys, was just reading an older forum about stinger suits and stingers in Mackay. Someone was saying they only come in in Northerly's or something. I was out yesterday giving kiteboarding a go for the first time with my brother in Mackay at the Harbour. It was blowing reaonbly good SE. We tried the kite on the beach for a while to get a feel for it. After that we decided to jump in the water. He jumped on the board and I was helping him launch. I don't think we were in the water for more than a half an hour and I got hit by stinger and I was only in knee deep water. Only ended up being a jellyfish but it put a quick end to a good day. Went and bought one of those Adrenalin lycra suits from BCF, will that do the job or what???? Looks like crap but at least you can keep goin. They say Blacks Beach and Main Beach are a goer hey?
Doesn't matter what the wind is blowin, stingers are self proppelled and go in any direction, you have done the right thing, don't take notice of the cowboys who think its tough to go out in boardies.
Apparently 7 people got stung at that beach last week.
I kite there all the time (near the break water). Have never used a stinger suit but might do that for the next couple of months.
I heard those lycra suits are meant for sun protection. It's the mesh stocking like suits that were designed for stingers. They also cover your foot, which in my opinion would be our most likely place to get stung!
