I think a good analogy is that if you wouldn't yell it in a crowded shopping centre then you probably shouldn't yell it here either.
My brother used to swear a bit in front of his kids (doesn't seem to any more), although I'd never heard them swear (they are in their mid & late teens now). When I asked him about it, he simply told me that his daughter asked him "why do people use swear words?" and he replied "because some of us aren't smart enough to think of better words - but I know that you are." It seemed to work...for both my brother and his kids.
I've told my kids the exact same and although a few of my mates throw a few 'f' bombs around and my kids hear it - I've never heard them repeat it. I'd be more comfortable with my 11, 9 & 4yo reading through this site with swear words in it
and seeing pics of natural (nudey) bodies (obviously not dangly-bits - they can be crude), than some of the offensive & derogatory crap that is directed between the same serial posters on a daily basis.
The moderators have been placed in a position to police the rules and they will ultimately determine what stays & what goes.
