The boys have done it again....

www.smh.com.au/national/apecs-surprise-guest-mr-bin-laden-of-canada-20070907-gdr1xr.html

made the news around the world....
Sent from my niece in Houston for a laugh (she's 1/2 aussie, so can appreciate)

WE ARE SHOCKED!!!

Everyone should show more respect for the leader of the war-free world.

Any one would think we see this gab-fest as a JOKE or something???!!!???

11 people arrested to appear in court Oct....so the footage may be sub-judice

And we get a public holiday today...and no wind

Yeah saw that on the news last night. Heaps funny but i can't believe they got so close. Got within 10m of George W Bush hotel apparently. I hopw they get to show the footage but i don't they will be able to. Apparently they wern't going to come back for another season because it was costing them to much as far as getting eachother out of jail and people sueing them and what not. Still one of the best shows of TV though.

Over 300 security people travel with the US Pres. & Secr......

It all means nothing if they're not paying attention, I'm guessing 'The Chasers' probably surprised themselves at how close they got.

Secret Service, Military, Police "The best of the Best"
Outsmarted by a few comedians!!!

Fantastic!!!

Unfortunately, I'm a taxpayer, and as a taxpayer, I pay for the security contingent....but you can't buy that sort of entertainment!!!

Good thing no-one got shot though!

I dont think they have done any harm. By the sounds of it they were actually waved through?! Surely that cant be wrong can it? The rest of em are in trouble now for trying it again, this time with card cut outs of the car train!!www.smh.com.au/national/chaser-does-it-again-as-cardboard-cut-outs-20070908-gdr21d.html

It'll be interesting to see just how shafted they get. What's in the special apec security act I wonder? I'd a thought a stunt like that would draw a slap on the wrist, but the truth is they could have been shot. Now that would have been entertaining. I bet they'd have more sense than to try that in the US.

Can you say .30cal, they make a nice neat hole at the front and the back looks like a lion has been chewing on it, they did something funnee thats fe sure but it could have been a tragedy.

I think that the fact the chasers are pretty smart people and chose very convincing vehicles was the only thing that got em through.

I would not want to be the head of security that day I can see a demotion in tha wind.

Does anyone live in sydney here???? Whats it been like dealing with the cattle runs????

Cheers GT

The name on the Chasers security badge was 'insecurity' and 'JOKE' instead of APEC

It would have made interesting news if one of the security teams realized they weren't supposed to there and they opened fire on the convoy.

The reality is that very really could have happened how many cars have our soldiers shot up in Iraq (or wherever) because they failed to stop when indicated and they thought they were a threat.

Like or loathe the politics which is going on (I'm of the latter), the security people are doing a job which puts their life on the line if a pissed off individual turns up with a bomb or gun.

The Chaser crew knew full well what they were doing no matter how much spin they put on it was reckless endangerment of all concerned, all for what? a comedy sketch.

How do you think the police officers would have felt if the did arc up on the convoy and then find out it was a joke.

I personally hope they get taken to the cleaners.

Now this attitude will possibly get up a few peoples noses so I'll give you a little story.

My cousins a cop, he was shot trying to arrest a pissed of individual and stop him from taking his anger out on the general public.

I don't think the Chaser are solely about cheap laughs, they make fun of the absurd and ludicrous that we somehow come to accept as the status quo in our society. Many a truth is told in jest.

Yeah, sure there has to be security when you have extremists wanting to assassinate/bomb/wreak havoc, but to steal another phrase "hatred begets hatred" or in this case extremism begets extremism. Likewise the more security/military force present the more someone wants to have a crack. Look at Iraq.

If nothing else the terrorists of this world might be loosening up a little and saying "FK...those guys are KN funny, maybe they're not all such wicked infidels after all".

My 2 cents.

That's rough elmo, and you're right, the cops and security guys get a rough deal for the work they do.

I don't think they were the chasers' target for the stunt though, I've seen them take the micky out of cops and guards before, it's always done in a 'lighthearted' manner.

I'm guessing that politics will come into the equation when the sentence is handed down....they did make Australia's (and APEC's) security look dismal to the world, this is something that our 'illustrious' leaders (and Bush, no doubt) wont take 'lying down', I'm predicting the boys will get a bit more than a 'slap-on-the-wrists' for this one.......unfortunately, as I said earlier, I don't reckon they thought they'd get that far.....how could they 'back-out' at that point though? (In the name of comedy...)

I can't help thinking it was a missed opportunity, I would have been mildly amused had the whole chaser crew been gunned down by the secret service.

I have said enough in another thread and dont want come here to preach but I do agree with Elmo, yes it may have been funny if looked at it from that point of view but as Elmo said, all hell could have broken loose and innocents could have paid a hefty price.

I suppose you could steal the lug nuts off an Ambulance and watch it crash on the way to saving someone having a heart attack.... Same thing. Funny????? Nah a bit silly realy.

As I mantioned b4, someone should have stopped them, like the Security that cost 100 billion trillion dollars. Some very big mistakes made!

Same thing??? A little different to taking the p__s out of politicians, Mintox....

As for endangering lives....if the 'chasers' did steal wheel nuts off an ambulance....I think the audience would be disgusted, funding from the ABC retracted, and they'd be jobless, and possibly be put away for a while, (after what they did, this could be the case anyway.)

They're not stupid enough to think that they're 'above all laws', although at the heat of the moment in planning the 'stunt', I don't think this was brought to the table (or the fact that they could be killed!!!)

P.S. Why are we discussing this??? Do the chasers windsurf?

Maybe they're kitesurfers......that would explain the 'lack of foreward thinking'

BTW...I do love kiteys...really?!?

This is the GENERAL forum, where we GENERALly discuss things in GENERAL

So,....if you want to somehow relate it to windsurfing....
APEC want to get some agreement on emmissions, global warming etc
(Fat chance given the people of the most populous nations, India & China don't give a sh^t) which may/will have an effect on when & where we get squashed air, which is when you & I want to windsurf

Is this a real issue?? Maybe, given the discussions just on these forums re the weird winter wind/weather patterns

Im totally with Elmo on this one. I live here in Sydney and I havent noticed a bloody bit of difference to the usual routine but luckily I dont work in the city, poor buggers.
I seriously think the Chaser team couldve got themselves full of holes. That guy dressed as Osama Bin Laden is lucky he is still breathing. The security people at the end of the footage I saw are laughing but that is probably the release of adrenalin and nervous energy.
My 2 cents worth.

Hows the guy in his little airoplane. He got a little to close to the security area, and 2 f-18's come screaming past shooting flares[}:)]. Would have been a fright for the guy, doing maybe 150km/hr, then two fighter jets come tearing by.Haha.
