en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiji,_WakayamaYes, the killing of whales and dolphins needs to be reduced. Thankfully, the killing is probably roughly at a sustainable level at least. As far as I know, every species of whale has bounced back from the brink... the dark era for whaling 1850's-1960's...
I think only 1 dolphin species vanished... Was it the Mekong River Dolphin, or similar... From memory one of the big challenges was seeing them in the mucky water!
Japanese and Faroese people will argue that "we" kill cows, they kill whales...
Personally, I think the entire world needs some over-arhcing laws, like a 1 child policy. People are the primary problem in this world...
