I just wanna say, we went down last year or maybe the one before and when the comp was at Northpoint, Gracetown, spectators were not allowed on the rocks, which is the same as not allowed to watch it at all. The reason seemed to be environmental damage.

There you go, can't really see the point of having an event for tourism, if the tourists aren't allowed to go and watch it.

You didn't feed a pregnant lady and made her sit in a car for 10 hrs

Margaret River Augusta Shire don't really care that much about surfing as an industry down that way nowadays.

Mountain biking investment down in that region is and will continue to be huge. The weekend bush warriors bring significantly larger numbers and money spent in that area. If you look at the demographics of MTB v surfing....

MTB: Generally older (or with families) and larger expendable incomes. Drop the wife off at the local day spa and then hit the trails. Stay the night, eat out at a restaurant...drink a few wines and coffees.

Surfing: younger, less disposable income, sleep in the car at some random spot, eat 2 minute noodles and drink goon.

You do the sums...pure economics

It's true, there was hardly any spectators, it was a pretty quiet weekend. And who wants more tourists around anyway? It's already expensive and hard enough to get accomodation. If they can run the comp without taxpayers funding that's great, but why spend our dosh? Just get rid of the whole tourism minister and department. Especially if you have this bizzare situation where they spend millions just to say you are not allowed to watch it.

As a semi localit is a PITA having the comp there. Wish they would not hold it due to reasons above.
