I do not know about you lot, however I am getting a little tired of near perfect results. So what I am suggesting is an alternative to general competition.[}:)]

For example: Throw a few crocs in with the rowers. Stingers in with the swimmers. Line the shooters opposite each other and release a flock of seaguls in the middle. 1 point for the gull and 2 points for a shooter. Mine field on the beach volley ball court. Just something to spice it up. Mkae it more a spectator sport

Open for suggestions

From the thread about combining sports, I like the one where pole vaulting and hurdles are combined. That would be fun to watch.

Perhaps you are watching the wrong TV show. Sounds like you should be watching "Its a knockout", even its only on VHS tapes.

I don't get the rationale behind having all the different ways of getting from one end of the pool to the other. Use whatever style you like, fastest one wins...simple

I reckon if you can justify having "slower" swimming strokes such as breastroke, backstroke and butterfly, then why don't we have track events like 100m "running backwards", or 400m "skipping" !!!!

- Why is the pool so special ?

What about walking 50 meters underwater?

Carry a concrete block and the quickest to get there wins. I once read that the watermen of Maui do something like this, carrying rocks underwater. It would be nice not to have to go to the office or underground bunker for a living.

Yeah all those difference swimming strokes make it a bit unfair for other athletes. If you are a good sprinter you can go in the 100, perhaps 200, perhaps the hurdles, the relay and the probably the long jump.

However if you are a good swim sprinter you can go in the 50 freestyle, 100 in the four strokes, all the different medlies and and different variations of the relays. No wonder it takes over a week to sort out all the races even though most of them are over in a couple of minutes.

I agree.
While Phelps is obviously an absolute gun, 8 golds can't be compared directly to what the best track athletes might achieve.

Who knows, Bolt might also win the 100m running backwards, 100m side stepping and the 100m skipping if they existed a la swimming.

Then he'd probably be a good thing to also win the 400m individual medley - for "getting one's butt around the track fast, using different methods every 100m's"

Not to mention the 4x100m relay etc that already exist.

That reminds me, - Should there also be a 100m sprint in handstand position??

Don't forget the crabwalk, and toddler crawlng. They would be my favourite if they got included.
Or rolly pollies.
Or a spitting comp, who can spit the furthest.

Hurdles in the walking race would be interesting.

100m tightrope race. 50m above ground, no net. Now that I would watch.
